oh, they are gorgeous, and how wonderful of you to get the boots and really try for the wonky one, i really really hope he comes right and repays all your dedication.
shame on H&H, i'd love to see big photos of them in the magazine (which seems to be getting thinner and thinner every week...) and a full story.
please keep us updated.
They are absolutely gorgeous! I want one (or two!) I agree with wildwest someone should set up a donation fund. If we all just gave what we could afford, even if it was only a couple of pounds i'm sure it would help. Congratulations and all the best for the wonky legs to straighten. Regular updates please
When the diggers come in & it gets too unbearable, you could always bring them over to mine, I have two here they can play with.
Seriously, very well done to you & all you are doing for them. They really are beautiful, I hope you are able to raise some funds, HHO'ers are great on here for getting things done, you know
Thank you so much again for all your kindness. I will try and get photos of us fitting the boots so you can see what they are all about. It usually takes 3 of us to hold Fell down, bless him. The vet will be unpeeling his bandages and fitting the boots whilst my husband gets to work with the drill and hacksaw for alterations. The vet did ask if they are "returnable" if they don't fit. I told him that Fell will grow into them! Watch this space tomorrow night or Weds!
Remember while all this is going on big brother Vinnie and mum Sofie will be right there with us. Sofie is such a good mum. Here are a couple of pictures of her with my 16 year old daughter Laurie (who is now 19) Spanish sunshine Tour 2007 when she went out there with John and Laura Renwick.
Congratulations and best of luck with both of them they are absolutely beautiful, hope little fell grows big and strong!! Any chance you could enlarge the pic of Mum and babies would love to see it a bit more clearly. Look forward to watching their progress x
Although not a twin, we had a filly born with extremely wonky front legs. She wore full splints on both legs for around 12 weeks, checked and changed every few days. She is now perfect and you would never know she had had a problem. Take heart, I am sure he will be absolutely fine and will be super cheeky in no time.
I think you should give me Fell as my boy is called Fella, so they are obviously a matching pair
Plus he seems to 'adopt' babies, he is inseperable from a 14 month old colt, despite the (approx) 5 hands ish difference, they are both convinced they are father and son!
They are both gorgeous - what a heartwarming story. Am looking forward to updates! (Especially pictures!) Double trouble I bet!
With regards to getting money back, have you tried BHS's legal line for support? They might be able to tell you what you are entitled to and the best way to get it.
Wonderful to see live twins - with even single foals there are so many things that can go wrong - and with twins it is so much harder. We lost a shire mare and one twin many years ago (with a vet in attendance) so I know how lucky you are. Best of luck with both of them in the future.
Fell's already trouble. He's been up on those legs long before his big brother and double barrelling him into the bargain with his ears back! He gets cross with his mum when she moves as he goes to feed. Sheer frustration for him. What's really sweet is when both brothers call eachother!!
Have got a solicitor on the case. Do you know my solicitor even told insurers about Fell and his urgent need for treatment funding? At the moment they don't want to know. The BHS were very helpful when I first called them about the fire. I've even got a European Member of Parliament on the case!!
I'm so very sorry to hear this. This is what people don't realise, just how difficult it is for mares to give birth to live twins. It's bad enough losing any foal, but to lose the mum aswell is just dreadful.
Unfortunately the twin that didn't survive had put a foreleg over it's head and punctured the uterus - there was nothing the vet could do for either of them.
We still breed horses now but standardbreds at the moment, and it's always heart in mouth come foaling time (after about 30 years doing this!!) as you just never know what's going to happen.
That's awful and I know just what you mean about foaling time. Even after. The day before the twins were born we lost a beautiful 6 month old foal. The farrier was about to trim her feet when she flew up and took and tumble on her head sustaining horrendous injuries. We fought to save her but had to put her to sleep. Well meaning people said that we got twins the next day so it was "swings and roundabouts". Not so. Each of those lives is precious. It didn't make the one we lost any easier. When fell hasn't got big bandages on his leg he always sleeps with a foreleg above his head. We think he was also in the position in the womb. Lucky for us he presented properly at birth - I was lucky enough to see this and deliver him.
My BF breeds horses and he had a mare who had healthy twins; a colt and a filly. The colt is now SJing and he's just lovely. He's kept the mare and although she's rather smaller than her brother, she has HUGE foals
Best of luck again for both of them in the future. I look forward to seeing pictures of them both as they get older. I'm sure with the boots and possibly some corrective shoeing as he gets older that Fell's legs will come right.
Oh they've just made my day! Totally adorable. Don't know why (probably cos I'm blond) I thought they would look the same, durr! Fab boots too, and I love them red jamas. Good luck with them x
Sorry Kingsmate only just got back in and read your reply
I live too far away but I wish I didn't they really are lovely. I'm putting this on favorite topics so It will remind me to ask you if we don't get updates. Give them both a hug from me
Your livery bill for 18 for that long must be horrendous
I was going to suggest the small claims court which I beleive is about £2500 but I imagine your bills for that amount was more than that.
I have only just caught up with this! What a wonderful job you have done and I truly hope that these little ones come through. Certain that they will, as you have obviously given them every care and attention. Good luck to those adorable babies!
I saw this dreadful rubber fire on TV locally and was amazed that it had taken so long to sort it out. I hope that you have a good solicitor to get a result for you!!
They are lovely babies. They have the cutest wee faces. Twin foals are quite rare. A friend of mine had highland twins and they were quite a sensation up here. Scottish farmer did a feature on them. We pass them when out riding a few times a weeks and they are always pleased to see us. They are certainly not under sized.
Your foalies have a very lovely and talented Mum, i hope you have as much success with them.
Thanks for posting the pics.
