Rash on one side?

Hi,

When Ozzy was clipped just over 3 weeks ago, I noticed he had a 'rash' of a few small bumps on one side of his body. There were maybe 20 lumps, only on the right hand side of his torso. They did not seem pussy or particularly swollen so I assumed it was a heat rash as he does get warm (hence the clip).

However 3 weeks on the lumps have still not gone. They are quite firm to the touch, a little swollen, but no more or less than before. They do not seem to hurt or irritate him at all and are not showing any outward sign of infection.

Just wondered if anyone had any idea what is may be or how I should treat it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Natalie

If the rash side was the first side that was clipped, then the clippers could have been mega sharp and a bit heavily used, thus snipping a teeny bit off the skin over some hair follicles. If it was the 2nd side that was clipped, then the clippers could have been too blunt by then and so the hairs were more yanked-and-ripped rather than cut. That would give a "barber's rash" appearance on the skin. Either way, it's obviously linked to the clipping. Has it happened at previous clippings? Did you do it yourself? If so, is it your first time? If someone else did it, I'd use a different person next time.

Hi, no I did not do it myself and I was not there to see it being done. He was very hairy before being clipped so I may not have noticed if it was there beforehand. I will bear in mind what you have said though - any advice on how to 'cure' it?

Thanks

If you hold the hairs on one of the lumps and gently tug, do they come out leaving a bald bit? I'd have a go because that might get the skin surface back to a healthy state ready to grow new hair. If the hairs don't come out by tugging I'd watch developments for a few days and if they don't heal or get worse, talk to your vets. Is it possible the lumps were there before the clipping but hidden under a hairy coat?
