Need some ideas as I'm not sure what this is?

My mare came in from the field two nights ago and I noticed a rash under her belly. It was just a small patch, barely noticeable, however tonight there is another patch. It just appears to be hair loss, there's no scabs, no pus and she doesn't appear to be itchy.

I haven't changed anything-bedding, washing powder and she hasn't been ridden for a week, so nothing to do with the girth. I'm just a bit stumped and asked a few people at the yard, but no one knew what it was. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Are you positive it is not mud fever? The reason I ask is that my previous horse suffered from it under his belly because as he was kicking up mud onto his belly whilst trotting through the muddy field. His symptoms were exactly as you mentioned with no mud fever like scabs or pus, but it was defintely due to the mud. I just put a barrier cream on him the night before.

It could be mud fever. She has never had it before, but got it on one of her heels a week ago, so it seems a bit of a coincidence. I will try putting a barrier cream on it.
