We have a new 'friend' - a big, black, shiny rat. Would really rather he wasn't around, and he's very bold as he comes and eats out of the feed buckets while they're prepared waiting for the horses to come in (so only 10 min window really and we are around). Have a small dog so don't want to put down poison or the type of trap that could hurt her - seem to remember you can get 'humane' traps where they go inside and the door closes on them? Where do you get these and what on earth do you do with the rat once you've caught it? I mean, obviously it needs to be killed, but how do you get that done?

Def need a farm cat we have Mr Hedges and his friend Benson. Rat population has been decimated!

There are local cats that hunt in the woods behind us (maybe that's why it's only one rat at the moment!), but I thought cats did mice and jack russells did rats - except my Jack Russell is too much of a wimp - she met the rat behind the shed and legged it - was funny! Rat is about the size of a small JRT just with shorter legs.
