Ratcatcher vs Cubbing

I've been cubbing quite a bit, but never been on a ratcatcher. What do they do on a ratcatcher?

As for the attire, what is "normally" worn for each of these? (Males)

Ratcatcher is the style of attire that you wear "cubbing" or Autum hunting.
So that is hacking jacket with tie, fawn breeches & brown boots but black are fine.

So when my hunt lists "ratcatchers" they are saying that that particular day isn't formal?

Still formal, just different dress code

Generally all hunts wear ratcatcher till the opening meet then you proceed in full dress. Some revert at the end of the season others don't.

My hunt DOES have ratcatchers after the formal opening. So this is just their way of saying we can dress as we did for cubbings?

I think you being from Texas - hunting in the USA is slightly different to the UK.

Just out of interest, how different is hunting in America compaired to the UK?

That would be speculation on my part. One thing I've picked up is that, before the ban, killing foxes was quite common whereas in the U.S., we rarely do. They're considered only minor pests over here and since just about all country people are armed, any that bother farm people would just be shot, so we don't need hunts to keep the population in check.
