Rather big problems with the new Freddie horse!

Well! He was such a good boy on the first day, mum rode him yesterday and as soon as she got on he started bucking, bucked out off school and ditched her, she daren't get back on so dad lunged him for a bit. My friend sat on him last night and he did the same thing, then I went down this morning and he chucked me off too!!!:( got back on and he was fine then, just seems to have this thing where he had to dump u as soon as you get on.

Mum is a bit traumatised so apparently the girl is coming tomorrow to ride him and bring some others to try incase we want to swap!

I don't feel like we've really given him a chance and he's so cool, but it's such dramatic behaviour, I can't see he's ever going to be suitable for 60yo woman??
 
Oh my god no way is he suitable! That is not a normal reaction for a horse, there is a problem there. Swap him, you paid lots for him and he doesnt exactly sound like the safe hunter you wanted!
 
Gosh, there seems to be a lot of this around at the moment!

Sounds like a swap would be a good idea, hopefully the dealers will be good about it.
 
Doesn't sound at all suitable, unless there is something really evident upsetting him like a new ill-fitting saddle! Did you get him from a dealer's yard? If yes I hope they agree to take him back.
 
Eeek. What a shame things have started off like this. TBH I thought 'cold backed' too when I read what had happened. Did you see him tacked up and ridden straight off when you went to try him?
 
If the girls come and spot an obvious problem that can be sorted, eg saddle, then give the solution a chance, otherwise back down the road ASAP. Look after yourselves. :)
 
Sounds like a lot of people handling a horse in a new environment to me......probably doesn't know if he is coming or going. Your post reads as if you have had him a few days. My apologies if it is months!
 
Oh no !! That's bad to hear SB. Like someone else said sadly there are a couple of people on here who are having similar problems. Check out the thread have I made a massive mistake? Has some good advice on it

Really hard for us to know what this could be and whether it's fixable or not but you are not alone anyway.

I have a horrid feeling I could be going through the same thing soon when my mare comes to my yard.

Only other advice I can add is to be v careful at the beginning. Ride with an instructor in a school first few times, lunge before you get on, wear a body protector, have another horse in the school if you have a school or go out with another quiet horse for company. And prob have an experienced person ride for a little while to see if it's him not settling before you get on. Seems like a pain but could really help in the early stages.

But speaking to the dealer is def a good starting point. find out what his routine was at the previous yard and try to match that as much as possible.
