RATS AND MICE ?

I have a problem. The barn gang know spot on when it's feeding time, and are there, ignoring me while they stuff their faces , Pepsi,31 often drops feed ( including they sometimes pinch from the bowl ?). At least six in this gang. Anyways, I have just taken a kitten I found in the barn to a rescue, she was too young and cute to be a barn cat.

Well blow me, I go into the barn tonight, a huge kerfuffle, and there on the second floor is a huge black and white kitty ? . So far we have shocked each other twice, I'm just hoping he stays if I feed him ( and along the line neuter him) and sorts my problem out. I dont do poison, and so far humane traps and break backs haven't worked. Cats come and go in this tiny hamlet, from and where to I have no idea.

What do you do ? I've even gone so far as humane trapping them and releasing them.

There was quite a few rats and mice at the yard. A feral cat moved in and had 4 kittens. They were trapped and spayed and returned to the farm. The farmer feeds them once or twice a day and can get close to them. They hang out in the hay barn and will scatter if they see you. No rats or mice seen now. Only 2 cats left sadly but just been noticing another cat about. So I would suggest getting some cats!

For rats I use snap traps, last winter I got nearly a dozen over 2 weeks! My neighbour had an infestation of them and when the water table rose, they spread out.
That said, if I had any yard cats, I wouldn't have set them except in enclosed parts where a cat couldn't access.

If this barn cat doesn't do anything we may try that.
