RATS< HELP

Today we have seen a family of rats in our chicken pen.They have to go. Have you used traps and which are best. Don't want to think about it but it has to be done.

move chikens for an hour and borrow a terrier...it'll be quicker!

Do it quick, when they got into our coop they cornered one hen and chewed its head off! Horrible.
We just put rat bait outside the coop where the hens couldnt get to it and in thin drainpipes (clay not plastic). Soon finished them off.

Buy warfarin...then if they die down a hole they don't smell as they decay.....you can get tubs of rat sized biscuits.
Or hire a puddy cat (hunting with cats isn't yet illegal is it

We have a couple of terriers here that you could borrow.....we are West Mids too.

Think a lot of them live under the muck heap so difficult for dog to get them, was hoping someone would tell me if any of the traps work well

Bait the traps with chocolate. But frankly you're better off sitting there with an airgun (so satisfying when you get them, I'd never shot at all until we had rats!) or getting in the dogs

Have caught rats in a larson trap - you, know, humane thing. But it took months as they're way to smart to fall for a trap unlike mice who seem to queue up to enter!

But then you've got the problem of what to do with them
