Arhh, don't you just love it when your sorting out the new zealand rugs ready for the winter use (been stored since march) and you find 'presents'??
Iam talking the presents from Mrs Rat and her family...

And, no, I don't mean droppings....

All I wanted to was to remind myself of last winters damage Meg puts her rugs through, repair any repairables, and give the rugs an airing and a quick clean if needed. Its not much to ask... I honestly thought her rugs might just survive this winter, then aim for new ones next year.

Rug 1 = torn, but usable
Rug 2 = the newest one, doesn't fit fantastic but remarkabley only has a few scratches on
Rug 3 = torn beyond repair, so time to go (why I didn't do this in the spring I have no idea!)
Rug 4 = looking good, slightly small fit but handy when needs must

And then we HAD
Rug 5 = Looks ok, slightly torn on the chest by the buckles, but usable... oh, wait, WHAT IS THAT?? Arhh, the lining is torn damn.... NOPE, the lining is mainly missing, yep thats been chewed off..... hang on .... ewwww thats gross....
A DEAD MANGLED RAT CURLED UP IN THE RUG their tails freak me out!!

So, with a screwed up face that a gurker (? - the men that pull funny faces!?) would be proud of I carefully man handled it into a bin bag...still gives me the shivers...!

And on that note, quite by chance I went to a second hand equine table top sale and picked up a brand new MW rhinegold for £35.
Every cloud has a silver lining as they say.

Megs wardrobe is complete for another year - hopefully. And yep, I will make sure the rugs are safer nest spring/summer.... lol

" gurker " - hmm. Ghurkas are soldiers from Nepal; 'gurners' are people who make distorted facial expressions!!

Try getting an electronic pest controller, a yard cat or a Jack Russell.

Arhh, yep I knew I wasn't quite right!! Gurners - thats the one!!
Cats are a no no - they will get 'dogged'...
A JR, now, i've always quite liked them, long as they don't yap, I don't think the OH would be too pleased mind - he wants a Springy one or a collie!!

Our JR hid her eyes so the rats wouldn't see her!! Murphy the Mastiff kills them like they can't believe! They think he is too big to be fast but I have never seen a dog hate rats and want to kill them as much as he does, he got bitten so now just crushes them instantly, tosses the body and on to the next! And Brownie the JRT 'please don't let the rats see me mum', well we dont even bother trying with her any more!

Got plenty of them at the stables and bottom of garden, cann't put poison down at home or the stables because of the dogs and cann't have anymore cats because we have two jrtx that would kill then, so stymeid.

Sorry can't stop thinking about yard cats going dogging!!!! I always thought that's what weird couples got up to in dark dingey car parks!!!

Get a CAT!!!! I got one, as the dgs werent doing the job, had to muzzle the dogs for 3 weeks, now they just avoid the cat, as they know they'll be in big trouble if they touch her. She's the one who got rid of the mice, and the rats, and she's worth her weight in salt/gold!!! Oh, and she's neutered so we wont have kittens, thank god!!!!!

Your poor rugs!!!!! I'd kill those rats myself if they did damage to my rugs, you poor pet!!!!!

Get a Dobermann he loves Rollands!

My dobie and mad lab go hunting together! The dobie is mad for rats (or any furry little thing actually!) He does destroy most things in his path to get to them though!

We did have to put poison down in the hard frost/snow we had for weeks as Dobie got as nail infection due to digging up too much frozen ground so then the rats took advantage and multiplied either that or got the rest of the illegal immigrants from the local area and moved in!

You can put poison down as long as you put it in drain pipes etc - just tell everyone and pick up the rolland bodies and destroy.
