Hi just wondering if anyone has come across this.

I bought my daughter a pony last week and the second time she sat on it it reared vertical. I phoned the previous owner that night who said he'd never done anything like that before and if i wanted i could send it back as my daughters safety is obviously very important (she's 4).

I got the vet out to check it right away and he has found that the roof of his mouh is coverd in mouth ulcers and the flesh inbetween his front teeth and rear teeth looks like he has chewed this to bits?? It is all VERY sore looking and to be honest I really dont blame the poor pony! The vet says he could've eaten something toxic or had a alergic reaction to something. His teeth were done at the end of July and the dentist had written on his report that the teeth were very sharp but now fine. My vet checked and said his teeth were now perfect but the flesh wounds could be due dentists tools 'stabbing' the edge of his mouth? But it wouldnt explain the ulcers.

Any ideas? Sorry for huge post but wanted to give as much information as possible.

Thanks

I would expect any ulcers caused by the dentists tools to have healed by now as the mouth heals very quickly but my mare gets little blisters along the inside of her lips from eating on bushes a lot of the time so it's possible given that the pony has just moved he's either eaten something that has triggered an allergic reaction or is toxic and burned his mouth or if there are wood bushes/hedges then he's cut the mouth causing ulcers by eating thorny branches.

Thanks for replying, he has no bushes or nettles etc in his field here. I have decided to keep him and hopefully his mouth will heal back to the way it should. There isn't any signs of anything on his lips which is strange.
