I've been feeding my two GSD's a raw diet for a couple of months now - i get pre-mixed mince from raw-to-go which is 80%meat 10% bone 10% offal

we had a issues with the runs at first which i expected - both have pretty much firmed up now, the two year old soft but formed but the puppy (4 months) is soft/formed but followed by loose consistency in the same motion. very occasionally now gets mcdonald milkshake consistancy (sorry sorry)

both dogs have very dark/black stools

i've read to up the bone content - the two year old is fine and i'm going to start introducing chicken wings etc but the pup is still a work in progress (she just swallows chunks of bone without chewing if soft enough or the bone is too hard for her to get much from it)

any ideas?
thanks - and sorry again :)

Sounds like they're digesting the bone but they may need more. The faeces are a great way to check how the regime is going. I'd be tempted to use plain minces (no bone) and add your own bone like chicken wings. Hold the wings, don't let her swallow chunks.

Have you tried the Dog Food Company?

We feed half raw chook carcases and half beef @ tripe chunky mince ,you need more bone content there. It is meant to be a 60/40 ratio in the bone contents favour.Mincing the bone removes the contentment factor from the diet, and that is very important.

I would just add in some more bone.

Feeding it minced will do nothing to help their teeth so I would start switching to cuts of meat.

The 10% bone is a guideline that most dogs do well on. Mine get about 15% bone.

I agree to add more bone.To do this just get some from the butcher in the form of edible bones, breast of lamb, with the meat and fat is good too.
Feed chunks of meat rather than minces if you can get them and the pup will be fine with a chewable bone, she will just bolt chicken wings.

My dogs get a variety of bones and in all honesty I have never bothered to think about percentages! Sometimes they don't get any for a week and then might have several days when they do get them - like today. I went to the abattoir to collect the tripe and collected some pork bones. The dogs all had bones when I came back and will have them again for the next two days then they might not get any for another week.
