I've heard friends who feed raw say this before but never experienced it until now with a fully-raw-fed dog - about muscle mass/density/weight?
He is only a pup, he is not fat by any stretch but by God, much lighter on paper than my older dog who is part-donkey, but he weighs an absolute ton, I can barely lift his front half off the ground, it's just dead weight (had to lift/drag the poor bugger over a cattle grid the other day :o)
Anyone else experience this?

I have noticed it too!

Only one of mine is fat and I do not know the reason why because she is not going off scavenging!
My GSD bitch is lean but hard fit and she would be over the 'ideal' weight but she is not over sized either.

Loof at a pack of Foxhounds, they are always lean and hard fit yet they are darned heavy for their size.

Yep Digger weighs a ton I can't pick him up, he is no way fat but a ball of muscle and can easily chase down a wabbit, blue is a lighter type but is still weighty but not at all fat.

As with any food, don't overfeed. It's very easy to give too much if you're not experienced. Just weigh it if you think e dog's a bit chunky. Big dog has been getting very little recently due to restricted walks (arthritis in a knuckle) but pups are getting more as they're very slim and nearly 18 months, so still on growing rations. Both pups are heavy, solid, dense creatures, but I can see their ribs easily. They're youngsters so I expect they'll pad out as they grow.

To reiterate, he is not fat at all and is not getting fed too much - just bloody heavy!!!!

Didn't meanyou, someone said their dog is 'chunky'. I find it almost impossible to carry my two far. (Zak peed off across the green the other day and I carried him back then couldn't heave him round anymore and had to entice him the rest of the way :o). He and Bear are 'dense' bodily: I don't know how to describe it, really.

Glad you said this. Rocky has been on raw for about 3 weeks and he weighs a ton - I struggle to lift him up now.

He is incredibly lean and fit - the speed he reaches when running flat out amazes me (especially when he's "racing" his whippet friend at the park!).

He doesn't have an ounce of fat on him but weighs about the same as a baby elephant! :D

Bax is just the same! He is not a big dog but is very well muscled on raw and much heavier to lift than you'd imagine. He is also VERY fast, Im sure he is quicker when on full raw, the ONLY dog that can keep up at play is a ridgie with legs over twice the length of his.
Maybe Im making a rod for my own back with all this good good :D

Reminds me actually - funny moment at the vets.

Vet takes one look at Rocky and assumes he hardly weighs a thing (wiry bit of gristle that he is!). So he goes to just scoop him up, and almost put his back out! That'll teach him to make assumptions... :D

I've noticed it too - my 15 week old pup when I last weighed him at 12 weeks was 15kg, he must be nearing 20kg now - I struggle to pick him up if he doesn't want to come in and wants to stay with the big dogs, he flops on the floor and just acts dead so really is a dead weight to lift - but he's just soooo solid!! - he's not fat either I can feel his ribs easily and he's heading into a lanky phase now! - I hate to think how much he is going to weigh as an adult!!!:o
