Raw feeders - what do you start your puppies on? My springer is raw feed, gets a mixture of tripe mince, duck wings, turkey neck, offal and chicken carcasses, nutriment compete raw, seaweed, egg and salmon oil. Do you wean your pups straight on to raw from the breeder?

Hi - no expert but have two labs which have been fed raw since 8 weeks old. Started them off straight from breeder. I think we started with chicken mince, then graduated very quickly to chicken carcasses (via, I think necks and thighs etc) then started a different protein - I think beef or lamb. Get established on each different sort of meat before you move to the next. They have whole fish, although one throws it up unless he eats it still frozen. I think chicken is supposed to be the best start though...

One protein for two weeks, then onto the next (I went quicker and regretted it!) and go slow with offal. Check out the raw feeding thread above, it's very helpful. I stuck with the breeder's awful food for a while then went cold turkey.

I weaned s litter on raw, just followed billingshurst "grow your pup with bones" pups did really well and all thrived looking fantastic. Each pup was sent home with 7 days supply of raw but disappointly no one remained on raw. I did give them small amounts of kibble to play with just so they knew the taste.
