Raw food success

Almost 3 weeks in on the raw diet and I finally plucked up the courage to give the dog a chicken wing. I got them from waitrose so they were extra special! Dog crunched and chomped it and is fine! Realise that I was well and truly brain washed into feeding kibble.
 
My biggest greyhound swallows chicken drumsticks whole - that is REALLY worrying! They dont get chicken wings generally as they are bigger dogs, it has to be whole carcasses for them to save any potential stress on my part :D
 
Goodness me I must have a dainty dog! I was so relieved she crunched it up. She has been really enjoying duck necks, however the beef knuckle was buried in the garden after a quick lick! Not sure when she is planning on digging it back up again! I
 
We've just had the same experience, although with a chicken neck for our pup. He has been on raw food for 3 weeks as well. Big intake but he munched away and everyone let out a big sighhh. I am now his best friend and he is currently sprawled over my lap giving me continual love for the tasty pressie. I am so glad we discovered raw feeding.
 
Cottonn glad I am not alone feeling anxious! It's a natural thing for the dog but it still feels like a dangerous thing to do giving them chicken bones even if they are raw! My dog is loving it, I think she thought yesterday's beef brisket had something to do with her too she is living in hope. What made you decide to go raw with your pup?
 
Its the bringing it back to you- half mangled- complete with hole in guts and spitting it at your feet whilst wiping his tongue on anything with the "I does not like dis fur" face then expecting you to skin it for him- I did learn tho- no furry bunnies for Dex......
 
RhaLoulou yes its very scary but so far so good. He came to us on an unbranded puppy biscuit from the local horse feed shop so we slowly switched him over to JamesWellBeloved as he really seemed to be struggling with the stuff, well he didn't like that much either. We tried everything to try and get him to eat it, but he was eating less and less. He's a Springer so was getting incredibly skinny with all the whizzing around. I just ended up researching around and speaking to a couple of friends who all suggested raw. We went to a shop near where we live and was completely converted on our first visit and god does he love us for it. We also watched that channel 4 program on the dog food and was pretty horrified at the thought of commercial food. What about you?

A whole rabbit .... defiantly going to be an interesting one ... out in the garden for that one I think :D
 
mine love a whole rabbit, they have always caught them, they bring them back then it gets shared out, soem go in the pot for us, some for ferrets and the rest for dogs, my brother once wanted a skin so I skinned the rabbit and the dog stole and ate the skin!

P.S. Blame my OH for the upside down slip lead!
 
Raw was a revelation for my springer too. He's much better on it!

Ps Cinnamontoast....to me that is the correct way to put a slip lead on as it can slack off?

Hi glad you have got your springer eating they certainly need the energy! I didn't see the programme on commercial dog food but I heard it was very off putting! I had to take my dog who is 8 to the vet because she was scratching at her bum, turned out she needed her anal glands emptying, she hates the vets any way and I was determined that she would not have it have that done again. I did some research and decided that raw was the way forward. She absolutely loves it, she always ate her kibble but not very enthusiastically, I wish I had switched earlier.
