Hi,

My first post in here so please be gentle with me!

I've just got my first puppy, only had him 5 weeks. He's a Jack Russell crossed with some other sort of terrier and he's fab!

I had a dog trainer come out to see us today and one of the things she mentioned is that she feeds her dogs raw meat and bones. she gave me a leaflet on this and I've been having a look at a few websites about it and am horrified at the stuff which goes in to dog food!

I want to feed the best diet I can to him but there seem to be quite a few differing opinions out there.

I wanted to know really, how many of you feed raw meat and bones to your dogs? Where do you get them from? and what do you feed?

also do you feed veg too? and if so why?

Sorry, lots of questions but want to get it right for the little guy, hope you can help.

Going home from work now but will check back for any replies as soon as I can.

Thankies is advance.

What do you think dogs did before tin openers?

Yes you also feed veg--the first part most wild dogs go for is the stomach of its prey where the "veg" is

I had two dogs in my kennels recently who only ate bones + raw meat, with occasional veg and they were in fabulous condition. All their food could be frozen, so you will need some freezer space. Their owners said they chose this feeding regime because they didn't eat processed food so saw no reason to feed it to their dogs.

Hope this is of some help.

Barf....Bones And Raw Foods. Mine get chicken carcasses, fish, lamb bones, pigs trotters, carrots, any fruit they like (they even pick blackberries off of the bushes through the summer) mashed potato/swede e.t.c One bitch has a real thing for the ends on tomatoes.

Just steer clear of any cooked bones (even big ones can splinter) grapes and raisins and you should be fine!

Far better for them and much more natural.

try and get a copy of grow your pup on bones or give the dog a bone, by ian billinghurst. its very informative and easy on the brain lol.

I feed my dog a natural diet too - but understand is not for everyone - is a personal choice.

If you would like nutritional advice or a diet sheet done, I can pm you the details of the dog nutritionist who did ours for us.

My puppy looks fab on his diet and loves it

Edited to say - don't forget to freeze the meat and bones first for 24hrs before feeding them - I let them defrost over night for the next day.

And anglian foods does online BARF foods - they deliver I think.

I get mine from our local butchers - or from the supermarket - depending what I need!
