i think raw might be what I need to do for this wee girlie... i did feed it years ago, what a faff with mixers and blenders and bones and juice, bleeerugh.

So... am looking for recommendations for pre-packaged raw diets?

am thinking naturalinstinct looks good? less rice/filler than naturesmenu? and am i right in thinking naturesdiet is cooked?

many thanks

I order from Durham Animal Feeds once a month. They deliver to my door and I chuck it all in the freezer in the shed.

Then I put the frozen meal in the bowls in a plastic box with a lid, ready for the next day.

Or I feed it frozen and chuck the frozen lumps of whatever into the garden and leave them to it.

They get a couple of duck wings and a lump of their minced stuff (which has meat and offal mixed) or a lump of fish/heart.

They get a frozen chunk of liver a week alongside a bigger bone (liver makes them loose, so the bone firms them up).

I can't feed chicken as it makes the wolf itch and come out in ulcers, so I don't feed generic dog food.

The specialist company means I can have access to green tripe - which I wouldn't be able to get otherwise.

Natural Instinct, yes, but probably a few quid!

It isn't too painful to take a delivery and just sort into meals or throw whatever comes to hand in the bowl. I get 500g of chicken mince with bone in a bag, for example, that's a big meal for any of mine. Simple. Next day, they might have beef, lamb or just meaty bones eg lamb breast, a pig trotter, chicken wings.

What's with the blender, N?!

I use Prize Choice feeds and their 'superior' range which is Natures Menu.

These are blocks of raw frozen meat, plenty of choice with regards to type and they also do freeflow mince versions as well as chunks of heart, liver, fish etc and chicken wings, poultry necks..... the list goes on.

The Natures Menu line is raw frozen with vegetables, rice and salmon oil included.

I order in bulk as my 2 rotties get through a fair bit and the price is roughly £7 for 12 blocks - the Prize Choice is 400g blocks and the Natures Menu is 300g.

I think the bags of offal, bones etc is roughly £4ish for a 2kg bag.

I feed Natural Instinct to my old girl but cannot afford all 3 to be on it :(

Kc is 15kg and it costs between £20-£25 per month to feed her on it.

My boys (20kg and 35kg) I source from DAF and the dog food company and local butchers which works out about £20 per month to feed the pair of them!

However I prefer the simplicity of Natural Instinct and the quality is fab too :D

If you are very wealthy then Honeys is also excellent but twice the price of NI  :p

thanks all...

so the natures menu blocks, are they complete and balanced?

CT - used to blend yoghurt, greens, veg, fruit, eggs... all that kach

How on earth did I not know about Durham Animal feeds?!?!

I'm off to give them a google, it may make it alot easier for B to go to raw full time :)

thanks all...

Yes, they give my boys a beautiful shine too probably due to the salmon oil.

If you have a small dog they do the blocks in chunks too, so exactly the same product but in small chunks. I think the bags are 1kg - they have a website so you might want to check that. It would just save you defrosting 300g at a time if you don't need it but I think it works out more expensive.

I moved from the Prize Choice which is plain meat to the Natures Menu & the difference in how they look is amazing.

Since reading this thread I've looked up Natural Instinct but it seems very expensive compared to the Natures Menu.

My pet shop gets it in really easily, I order on a weekly basis, so you should have no problem getting hold of it.

the natures menu only has something like 23% chicken as opposed to 75% in the natural instinct tho, hmm

I'm not complaining, mine look AMAZING on it :)

However the Prize Choice blocks are 100% meat and you can always buy the Natures Menu pure vegetable nuggets and add those. It would still work out much cheaper than the Natural Instinct & easy to order as it's all the same supplier.

I always alternate Natures Menu with heart, liver, fish, chicken wings etc so I hope to be getting the best of both worlds.

Mine have Landywoods which is good value for money.

They refuse to eat Albions range and arent keen on naturesmenu.

They love Landywoods
