I worked with one of the authors - they're also looking into the DCM/grain free issue now

I note that 2 of the owners tested positive to TB antibodies and are having treatment. I also spotted at the end of the article that there were more cases identified.

What's the DCM / grain free issue @druid?

I was surprised (though I probably shouldn't be) how many cases were mentioned in the conclusions.

I wonder where the venison was being slaughtered as the statement from natural instinct suggests it wasn't inspected to EU regs
'‘because some
of the ingredients were not inspected in line with EU
requirements. The absence of inspection means the
safety of the product cannot be confirmed and may
therefore carry a potential risk’'

but the authors say
'However, in either instance this outbreak raises concerns over the strength of current regulations with regard to meat inspection procedures and may necessitate an increase in trained veterinary meat inspection of a carcase before it is passed as fit for animal consumption '

so it's not clear to me whether the current regulations were breached, or they still think them insufficient.

SEL there are cases of DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy ) that are being linked to grain-free commercial diets, though it might not be the lack of grain but down to some of other ingredients used, I've seen peas mentioned a lot.
