Raw Skin *pic*

Hi,

Has anyone had anything like this before? The inside of my mare's hind legs.
Its just started in the past couple of days and the skin has just peeled away. The flies have been really bad - not sure if they would cause this though?
Mare isn't irritated by them and it isn't sore to touch although putting cream on - she lifts her leg non-threatening - but the cream is cold.

How would you treat this? Any ideas as to the cause?

Hi.What fly cream do you using?Because we used nex tex or something like that on our horses,and Hudson have terrible reaction,hair and skin on his face where cream been applied,just came off,so stopped using fly cream now.Maybe cream itself is the reason and the sun.But it does look very similar.Try not to use it for a week and see if it get better.

Is it both legs? I.e. more systemic than a graze?

Looks vaguely like a sweat rash type of thing ppl get in elbows/other nooks and crannies so to speak - does she get very hot? What has your weather been like lately?

Does she sun bathe? Snooze with that leg facing the sun, as it does look a bit like sunburn! Poor girl, I would stop with anything potentialy irratating like fly spray etc and use e45/sudocream and hopefully it will soothe it.

May even be worth sending your vet a photo of the skin, just in case!

Naf Off Deet Powder is what I've been using. - I've used it on other parts of her and they're ok. Showing no reaction?

It is both legs although the other side isn't looking as bad.
She doesn't get hot generally - is well brushed off when ridden and doesn't tend to be sweaty there.
Between 10 - 15 degrees here and it's been mildly warm.

She doesn't lie down much (or not that I've seen) When I have seen her lie down, she isn;t flat out.

I've been putting Sudocream on it the past couple of days. It was just today I remembered to get a pic.

going to vet tomorrow to pay invoice so will show them.

Thanks all and any more suggestions/tips etc are more than welcome.

Pic does actually make it look worse than it is. I saw pic and thought even though I had seen it.
