For those of you who knew Ray Howe I am sad to report that he has died. His funeral will be on Monday 16th November at midday at Tunbridge Wells Crematorium. All are welcome to pay their respects.

That's a name from the past the the older members will remember. Sad news

I remember Ray. How tragic, my thoughts go out to his family.
Can someone please remind me of his horses, was one of them a grey?

Yes didn't he ride a grey called Fanta?? Those were the days when S J was on the telly at 9.25 after the news, Olympia, RIHS, HOYS all on the telly. Horses were Irish / British with normal names and had characters. The riders also used to look happy and pleased when they won. Not like like the bay warmbloods which all look alike with unpronouncable names, and riders esp some of the young ones with too much attitude. No wonder it doesn't get the support it used to. I know I am miserable so and so.....but I am right!

So sorry to hear the sad news of Ray Howe - my consolences to his family and friends. I remember him when he used to live on a lovely farm in Streat, East Sussex and ride Douglas Bunn's - The Rascal. I also remember he used to have a 'dishy young chap (I'm going back a few years now!) train with him - I think his name was 'Peter Charles'! They used to hack out together on some lovely horses and were always polite and say 'hello'. The name of his grey horse escapes me at the moment.

I train with Ray's daughter Jenny, the family are devastated - but I shall print this topic off to show her, as she will be so proud!

R.I.P Ray

I spoke to a neighbour this evening where the Howe's used to live in Streat, East Sussex. He is really sorry to hear of the sad news of Ray and said that he very much used to enjoy their parties at their farm. RIP Ray.
I must admit I used to enjoy the show jumping in those days of David Broome, Harvey Smith, Ray Howe, Paddy McMahan (PenwoodforgeMill) Eddie Macken, Lionel Dunning... other names escape me at the moment. Those days were go much fun and entertaining to watch in person and on TV - with so much BBC coverage then.

Calico Prince was grey I think.
What a great reminder of the good old days.
Ditchjumper2 how right you are!
