So took the ginger one to Shire Halls Farm today to to the Area 8 RC Festival of the Hunter (posh name for an eventer trial
)
Walked the course - wasn't worried about the height but there were some wide and scary xc fences which I was a little worried about. Watched some SJ rounds (as I arrived to late to course walk it) and went down to get ready. Did dawdle a bit getting ready and went in to warm to find I had two to go
Cantered round and popped over one SJ and two XC fences and was asked to go up to SJ ring
SJ course was okay - only a couple of fillers but the last fence (a double) had a spooky blue fillers with eyes on it and I has seen a few horses hesitate and then slip so was determined to ride that well
He jumped a nice clear and then we were off onto the XC.
Fence 1 was a wooden palisade - jumped very sticky (as expected!) and I did knock the flag. Fence 2 was a wideish table (had smaller alternate) which he jumped okay, fence 3 (wooden box) and 4 (wooden palisade) were fine. Had to kick on for the tyres at 5 and then he jumped fence 6 (a big collection of logs) really well. Trotted over fence 7 (a brick wall) and then cantered off well, popped over the ditch and fence 8 (some telegraph poles) and then we came to Fence 9
This was a wide fence with solid sharks teeth - what made it scary was you were jumping into some dark woods and the ground dropped away at the other side making it look like a big drop. B stopped and I gave him a slap and he went to jump it from a standstill. At this point I realised quite how wide the fence was and though "oh s**t this is not a good idea!" We leapt the fence to one side and then B shot forward heading straight into a tree. He darted to one side but rammed my knee straight into it. The force (and being unbalanced from the fence) forced me out the saddle (and out of my stirrups) and I landed on his bum
I managed to pull up and I clambered back into my saddle and had two strides to get him over the next fence out of the woods
Jumped that okay - popped over the next two fences (a small chair and a double of narrow barrels fine). Popped over the trakenher, down two steps and over the last to make it home in one piece
Our team ended up 4th and I had (a few
) time penalities so came about individual 12th
Was very pleased with him especially as he is not all that keen on XC
Have now had a bath to soak my very bruised and battered knee
