Took Hopalong along to my riding club show yesterday. We entered a prelim dressage test and two SJ classes. There was a big gap between DR and SJ so I hired her a day box for inbetween, she was a bit confused about this, but had to be nicer than being stood in the trailer for hours and meant I could relax/chat/help out without worrying about her quite as much!

Did P13, she warmed up beatifully and then went all tense the minute we left the warm up and went next door to the arena. Grrr! I know a part of this will be rider nerves etc, but I really wasn't feeling too worried about this as it was so low key, I think she just "knows" when it matters!

Some nice bits and some not so nice bits (jogged in the free walk on long rein, grrr, that's a double marker plus usually a good part for us!) judge seemed to like her though and got mostly 6s with a couple 7s and 5 for the free walk with jogging. Put her away in stable and got back to find out we'd got 60.8% and 4th place! There were about 15 folk in the class I think, so decent size and we don't often get dressage rosettes (think that was only our 2nd ever?!) so was very pleased with this. Winner was apparently only on 62.something% so not miles off the pace either.

Had a good blether with applestroodle and helped out on the ground with the early SJ classes and then surprised Hopalong by tacking her up again. She was most pleased to have her plaits out, boots on and see jumps this time around! (I think she may have thought a XC round was on the cards later, but sadly not!) Warmed up nicely and did a lovely DC in the 85cm class with a couple cheeky tight lines in the JO to take the red rosette (and bag of carrots as prize!). She was loving it.

Did the 95cm class after and had another clear round. Only about 4 of us in this, all the other 3 had either a pole down, refusal or were eliminated, so we won this without having to do a JO! Again, Hopalong was having a ball and just felt fab. Really fun jumping her as she just enjoys it so much.

Some photos courtesy of Mr FigJam below. Not loving this restriction to 4 "images" (which include smilies?! Hence why I've not used any!) per post. Boooo!

Dressage-

Probably the closest to looking like a "dressage pony" photo;

The usual "giraffe" impersonation!;

Happy because she's cantering!;

Well done you and Hopalong. She looks lovely!! The jumping photo's are fabi

Oh and u can now do 12 pics/smilies!!!

jumptoit- spot on! :) One was lap of honour for 85cm and the other was the 95cm class! Thanks.

tink101- that's good the hear it's now up to 12 pics/post. I still reckon we need to campaign for a higher number, I like lots of pics AND smilies. ;) Thank you also, she is definitely a jumping pony, not a dressage pony!

Sounds like you both had a fantastic day!

I'd hoped to bring C but trailer is away getting serviced - maybe next time!

Well done on your rosettes!

looking super, well done. Congrats to me figjam too his timing for photos is ace (i am lucky if the one in charge of the camera gets the horse on, usually surface or sky!!!!)

Babybear- will hopefully see you at another one soon! Bad timing for trailer service. :(

spookypony- thank you, Hopalong is usually quite consistent with unaff jumping ones, but the dressage one was a real (pleasant!) surprise!

measels- thank you!

Nic- that's my fav dressage one too! :D She has such a cheeky expression on her face. "Mwah ha ha, I'll be nice and calm now it's all over" kinda thing! :p

horseywelsh- thanks. He has got the timing for jumping down to a pretty fine art now. Was muttering about camera needing serviced though, think it's just an excuse to buy more/new bits?! A bit like us and rugs/boots/other tack! ;) Maybe your 'tog needs more practice?! Sure they'd love that?! :D

I like plenty of pics too Figjam (my 2 for 1 report was very constrained by only using 12 pics, and I had to remove all my smilies :()

I love her SJ pics, she is so careful and really loving it :)

Well done.

Fiona

What a fantastic day you had. I have to say that she (and you) look much happier jumping than doing dressgae though. When's the first event?

horseywelsh- thanks. :D[/QUOTE]

Hahaa ohhh let him buy the new bits, your photos will be even more pro like then :) They def need more practise, but getting the OH to come along can be challenging in itself unless there is likely to be tractors he can look round, or plenty of exciting jumping to watch (think thrills and spills style!). I was competing at a county show and had taken champion, only to find out OH had wandered off with Dad and the camera to look round the cows! Good job Mum aka groom is always around, but she feels more at home painting hooves, brushing tails etc than operating a piece of high-tech kit :D

LW- she has enjoyed even more of them for breakfast today! :D

Fiona- yes, 12 "images" which includes smilies is not very generous, although when I put my OP up I thought it was only 4 which had me in an even bigger huff!

GB- ha ha, it is that obvious isn't it?! Neither of us love the stressage, but we "suffer" it to get to the fun bits. ;) First event has now been entered, Kirriemuir BE90 on 11th April, eeek!

horseywelsh- oh no, poor you being abandoned at your moment of glory! :( You certainly won't find Mr FigJam getting close to her hooves... he much prefers either watching through his camera lens or feeding carrots/polos afterwards!

PS/LB- thank you also, we did have a good day and it felt really spring like so I'm crossing my fingers winter is on the way out. LB- that is also my favourite DR photo, funny how it's the one of us not actually doing dressage?! :p

I love the difference between Huffy Hopalong (dressage) and Happy Hopalong (jumping), and goes from :( to this :D, but then is just :cool: in the posing photo.

Well done, red rossettes are always good :D, love the piccy of you leaving the arena & both of you looking at the camera at the same time :)
