RDA Horses?

The Wilton Group RDA (near Salisbury) are desperate for a big weight carrier! It is mostly walk work, with a bit of shuffly trot every now and then. However he would have to carry fairly heavy, unbalanced riders (thought TBF only for around 20-30 mins max). Would your chap be up for this? The Wilton Group have a lovely set up with about 15 horses, and great facilities. Please please PM me if you think this might be suitable. Cheers.

Lots of the smaler groups are desperate for horses I think you should ask in your local tack shop and ask around more. The one I used to be involved in were desperate (and still are) for the Jacobs of this world but we couldnt find the loan homes to look after them during the week. We didn't have a centre just lots of people who donated what they could to the group be in loan of a feild, pony, poles a helping hand etc.

Keep looking!

My daughter has volunteered as a helper at the Elizabeth Curtis centre in Bedfordshire and from what I saw, Jacob would be fab for them, as many of their clients only do walk work. I would also have thought that there would be many a loaner who would love a horse like him just do leisurely walking with the occasional trot. Having lost my nerve, that's pretty much all I do with Harvey. I'm sure just the right person/group is out there for him and wish you the very best of luck x

Every RDA centre is autonomous and different - some are dedicated to RDA only, some are riding schools that have a few lessons a week for RDA groups, some cater for the more able, and some happily trundle around the woods in walk for most sessions (dope on a rope style!).

Perhaps arm yourself with a pack of envelops and a well-written A4 advert for him, with two good photos, and post off to every centre in the south-east. At the RDA centre I used to volunteer at, he would be perfect for the adult riders who came mid week, but may not be sound enough for the minders who ride at the weekend, but not every centre runs like that so ask them all. It will only cost you a tenner or so in postage to try :)

Thanks for all the lovely PM's :) and the helpful posts ^^

Jacob can stay with us forever BUT he isnt happy just stuck in the field. He is so pleased if he comes in for a groom/fuss/farrier that he "smiles" all day. We have 4 other horses and OH has another back operation next week which means he wont be able to help me with the horses til at least Dec, maybe longer. We both work and there are not enough hours in the day to keep the hunters fit, stables mucked out and find the time to give Jacob the attention he craves :( We just think he could give someone so much fun.. I know he is 16.2 but he has a super comfy smooth movement( i was breaking him to sidesaddle as you can sit to his trot all day- probably bra less too :D) so riders dont have to cope with a big action plus his preferred shuffle trot is easy to keep up with if leading.

I have PM'd Starzaan

Thans Llewelyn i will do a flyer for him. I feel that because he is such a people person he would be happiest in a busy yard and everyone who meets him falls in love with the big white pokey nose :)

Have just PM'd you back - our Wilton Group is seriously interested and we will be in touch by phone today. Jacob sounds just perfect!

Thanks Shy- make sure your feathers dont get locked together while crossing your hooves or i will have to get my clippers *evil laugh of the hogging queen*

Thankyou IrishCob- she has just rung OH :D

Wilton are coming to meet Jacob on Friday morning :D
It should be a good test, as they are starting the groundworks for our school, so they can see how good he is with heavy plant. We know he is fine with tanks after hunting with the RA :p :D

Will update later in the week but *fingers crossed* as they sound lovely :)
