I am re-designing my boys feeding plan as vet has told me to cut out his current feed due to leg swelling and foot problems (all up in previous thread) because it is high in starch which obviously isn't ideal. So does anybody have any feed suggestions for a: 15.1, rising 7 year old sports horse gelding that is an absolute pudding in summer just on grass 24/7 (has a likit in his stable to say good boy for working etc). However once the grass goes in winter he drops weight easily, has no energy and looks generally dull. He has been barefoot all his life with no issues with footyness/abscesses/cracks. In summer we can go hacking for hours and his feet are always fine after. We do medium work 5/6 days a week all year round with slightly less work for 2/3 weeks in winter due to exams but I still try to keep him ticking over. He is currently fed 1 Stubbs scoop of Alfa A Oil and 1 square scoop of Topspec Super Conditioning Flakes, dampened with water, once a day with add lib haylage. He is out during the day for about 10/11 hours with haylage if the ground is frozen/covered with snow. He can be a bit spooky at times but with the more work he does, the better he gets.
So any suggestions from you lovely shores?
