Further to my post yesterday after the farrier had been out and said my old companion loan pony has got foot rot has got worse today.Arrived up yard this morning to find her still hopping lame and almost depressed looking. So, I called vet.
Bear in mind i've been battling since april with cracked feet. Anyhow vet arrived and said seedy toe and that what i'm doing is correct regarding iodine and bute and as much time out as possible. He's given me more bute and told me to up it to one sachet rather than half.
The most worrying thing is that he's mentioned cushings. She is very wooly and got the same last year and its not curly!!
My predicament is this:
1. Pony is only on loan as a companion ie. does not belong to me!!
2. I was rather hoping to get her feet right and send her home
3.I don't want to be spending money on loads of tests
4.Owners don't really care and NEVER contact me.....i've had her 18 months now
5. She's a sweet little thing and the whole family adore her
6. I feel heartless!!

I'm not sure what you are feeling heartless about, are you planning on returning her, maybe before the hooves have recovered? If you are going to keep on loan, I would talk to the owner (shock horror, owner has a pony still!) and ask them to pay for the veterinary tests, and help towards any treatment required.

I deftinately wouldn't return her with bad feet. Its not the right thing to do as she arrived with good feet. Just due to the ground they've cracked and ended up like this!
I feel bad because i feel i should get the tests done straight away but would rather sort hoof thing out and then consider it.
I am reluctant to contact owner to say 'she's got seedy toe but its being dealt with oh and by the way the vet thinks she may have cushings and i don't want to fork out for it!!'
