I think my horse is quite happy in 2 HW's and snuggy jams/hood + turnout boots!

Video taken last winter (Dec/Jan time)

For those that asked here is the quote from the person who (sorry, my mistake I said 8 rugs, it was actually 7!) said that they put that many rugs on, though I haven't included the person's name in the post as I feel that would be unfair (though it appears they are banned).

"Ok so at the moment they have a fleece, l/w 100g stable, 250g stable with neck and a h/w 350g with neck, that's the one who has the most on, the one who has the least is a rambo optimo no neck with 360g liner... Not going to list all what everyone has on...

When one wore 7 rugs he had, a fleece, l/w stable, fleece combo, m/w combo x 2, normal l/w and a h/w combo on top. It was -15."

(My apologies again re the weights of the rugs - as I said before, it was a fair while back so couldn't remember the exact details other than the amount of rugs was ridiculous).

And that, folks, is what I am talking about being ludicrous over rugging.

Good lord! My (baby) horse was unrugged in -20C last winter. Though he wasn't clipped and looked like a yak. I do have a no-fill rain sheet for him if it is wet and windy, but when it is dry and cold he goes out au naturel.

I'd agree that was silly overrugging. Don't really see the need for so many layers with modern rugs but hey ho. With multiple rugs I worry about pressure points but if people are happy their horse is happy well, let them get on with it. IMO if they are dry, have forage and a full coat its surprising how many don't actually need rugging even at -15.

Absolutely it is and I think there are very very few who would disagree with you. But when you bring this up on threads where people are mentioning nothing like this level of rugging it makes it sound like disapproval of anyone who dares to rug in the least bit of cold weather and its simply not comparable

Moomin1 I think you have made your point, it is starting to get very boring now.
I don't agree with how many different people manage their horses in various ways. Sometimes I will state my view, sometimes I won't - but I will always accept that it is up to the individual owner to manage their horse as they see fit.

Absolutely. I wonder if people are aware how horses keep warm ? Pressure points and not allowing the horse to moderate its temperature is a major disadvantage when laying on multiple rugs.

Your horse is lovely!!

How can you tell ?

He is also funny clipped (except face/legs) in that video.

He is also still happy to be in his 200g full neck in 8ºC during the day.

so do i get an apology moomin? and NMT? as being as that is neither of us, and my horses have never worn that amount of rugs? I have gone to huge length to explain why CS prefers plenty of rugs, ive tried to explain his EPSM, and unless you have been able to pick apart some part of my post, you have ignore all info offered.
it would be nice if you could apologise for the needless bashing.

Bless him he's zonked! Actually, in the OTT rugging thread someone did mention that their horse had worn 8 rugs and a bit unfortunately for you Prince33Sp4rkle - their name was a bit similar to yours, seems like maybe you got mixed up for someone else :(

I've come to the conclusion that anyone who feels that Moomin posts unreasonably about them should report them, that includes less unpleasant posts but where s/he has followed people round the forum to put them down.

As for rugs - FGS you rug according to your horses' needs as you best see them. ATM nothing of mine is rugged, when I do rug on any given day it could be that some will have no rugs on, some will have 100g, some will be in 200g, one will be in 300g and will have an additional fleece on at night. That will be because that is how they are happy and what keeps them healthy / mobile or their weight on (or off).

Nope, I still think you rug excessively! Sorry.

In actual fact I was going to copy and paste your post from the exact same thread which said the amount of rugs your horse had on at the time, but I thought it best not given you said you felt somewhat 'picked on'. :-)

*Whispers - I think you willl find PS appeared after me in the previous thread! And it wasn't even me who mentioned her to start with! ;-)

But anyway, go for it - whatever makes you feel happy! :)

I rug according to individual need...

Seems logical to me :rolleyes3:

Exactly - what gorgeous ponies :). My new youngster (Connie x) seems much happier to be in and stands at the gate when it's raining even though she has spent her life outside. Her coat atm is nowhere near as good as my old mare. She was kept on grass only so maybe she is missing something. I'll see how it goes.

I don't think anyone anwhere has said don't rug to individual needs? In fact, I think it has been a laboured point.

It's a little like saying on a 'how much to feed thread' that someone who disagrees with someone feeding an excessive amount of concentrates for limited work is disagreeing with feeding horses on an individual basis.

Well, it has really because you laboured the point with another poster about her horses individual needs. Fair enough, your opinion counts just as much as another person but at the of the day it's your opinion based on your non-hands on experience with that horse. If they had no idea what they were doing, fair enough, but they so obviously do!
