re-homing a horse from a charity

My horse is from a charity (HAPPA). My situation is a little different as I was working there at the time I took her on but I did have to go through the usual checks etc ;)
I've had her for 8 years so far and she has been my horse of a lifetime.

How long it takes to find something suitable really depends what you are looking for though. My experiences were that there were lots of 2nd pony types, but first ponies and bigger horses were few and far between. The ponies were sometimes returned after they were outgrown but I would guess that people who loaned horses tended to keep them as I have done :D

I dont know if other charities do it, but our local one, Hope Pastures have a contact list of horses needing homes.

These are the ones they cant take as they are not rescue cases but they will put people in touch with each other. Not sure if the actual loan is done through their loaning system but they do home checks on people.

They have had quite a few ridable horses recently, people who cant afford to keep them etc.

Might be worth a few phone calls

I've got two on loan from SWHP in Monmouth. One is a ridden 14.2hh pony who I had as a recently broken in 4 year old. she's now ten. the other is an elderly welsh mountain pony who I have as a companion and who does her job perfectly and can even be left alone while the others are out being ridden. I would thoroughly recommend SWHP. I know other people who've loaned from them and all have been very happy.

Bransby will be adding new animals to the rehoming page as and when they become available. I think that initially you fill in an application form stating the type of animal you would prefer. Take a look at the website as all the details are there. There may be some youngsters coming up in the next two or three years (if they make the grade :))

I've got one from world horse welfare he's a cob trotter cross came at two years and 12hh as a companion and is now 4 years and 14.hh and I backed him last year. Is mainly a happy hacker but won his first dressage comp two weeks ago. I had to go to Blackpool to meet him and then had a home check, just safe fences etc and then picked him up. Have a check every six months just that alls ok with him etc
