Re-homing Centers in Hertfordshire

Later on in the year we may be looking to get a dog and I would love to get one from a rehoming center.
Other than the rspca/ blue cross/ battersea etc, what re-homing centers are there in Herts?

A websearch may bring up more than is listed here tbh. http://www.dogpages.org.uk/sth-east.htm there's also breed rescues if you have specific breed in mind.
Some rescues advertise dogs on DP http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php and http://www.dogsblog.com/ and if you can travel then there are some that home out of their local area and may use foster homes.

I don't know which side of Herts you are but if you are fairly experienced and know what you are looking for I rang Uttlesford Dog Warden and found out which rescues they took dogs to and rehomed one from there.

Anyone else have a private and sobering moment looking at the numbers of rescue centres available? And know that that is still not enough to cope with the vast number of unwanted dogs.

Big thumbs up for deciding to get a rescue dog. You will be spoilt for choice and will save 2 dogs..the one you take home and the dog who then come into the space you have made by taking a rescue.
