About bloody time that something was done about this pastime!
I don't mean Appleby btw as I have no issues with the event itself but I can in no way excuse the actions of the person that day that caused the horse to die in such a horrible and terrifying way.
Let's hope justice is ultimately served for the dead horse and that the sentencing of this individual serves as a strong warning to those that would contemplate treating animals ( horses especially) in a similar manner.
Thanks for the link because there is a chance that I may not have seen the story otherwise. It has made my day so thanks very much
I really hope he get's what he deserves, but in this country the RSPCA and Police don't seem to have the power to do much!
When you watch Animal Planet, you can see in America how different things are and even have there own police force for the animals.
They can go in and take animals without questions, where as here they have to ask and wait months before anything is done, and by that time the animal is dead or nearly dead.

Yes, I think this everytime I watch those programmes on Planet Earth. It certainly seems as though America has more back-up than we have and they don't think twice about removing ill-treated animals after posting only one warning to the owners. Here, there is far too much paper-work and pussy-footing around whilst the poor animals suffer even more. Mind you, it looks as though they have their work cut out in the USA judging by the amount of Pit-bulls used for fighting which they have to recover. On these occasions I always find myself asking 'why didn't the neighbours do something about this months ago?'
Yes! They got him. I was sickened when I saw the article but so so pleased that they found the culprit. Sat with a big fat grin on my face now.
Mind you, I don't doubt that had the incident not been made so high profile by the press, the RSPCA/ police etc. would have let it just fade into the background
Name and Shame them I say. Let everyone know what sort of people they are.

He'll never get what he deserves unfortunately

what he deserves is to taken to the same river, stripped, and dragged around on the end of a rope and dunked until he drowns. however most people would think that rather extreme and it wouldn't be allowed anyway
