So my sister had to loan out her lovely gent ex-racer TB because she's got prolapsed vertebrae - not horse related I hasten to add ;)

We went through the whole thing and he ended up going on 6 month loan to a lovely young girl who was besotted with him. Roll on 4 months and unfortunately the loanee is having her hours at work cut and she doesn't think she can afford to keep him so we've to loan him out again (I say we because big sis needs a hand with it all). It's a real shame as she was really nice and they got on great shakes together :(

So horse re-advertised and there has been lots of interest - great!
Trying to whittle it down a bit but I was wondering:

How many prospective loanee's would you have in one day? I thought max of 5 bearing in mind we'd like to get a few up there in one day because it's going to be at the current loanee's yard which is about an hours drive - mum is having to drive sis out which is difficult for her with work and her pony etc - so we'd ideally like to get it done fairly quickly so there isn't too much back and forth and we won't have to keep sorting out times that would be good for the YO here there and everywhere.

How long would you "book in" each person for? I was thinking about an hour for Q&A, groom, tack up & the ridden part which should leave us a little time between people?

What do you think?

Sorry things are difficult at the mo and hope you sister mends well. Will the horse cope with your timetable O.K. as it seems quite a lot of charging and changing around for him to cope with.

Suppose you could just think well he has to cope, but is he likely to be fed up by the time visitor 5 is climbing aboard.

Thanks me too, it's unlikely she'll ever ride again but at least she's a bit more mobile now and out of the wheelchair :(

I'm not sure really that's why I was asking for advice, the last time he was on loan he only had 3 suitable people interested so he only had 3 viewings.
The thought is that although they will be riding they won't be intensive schooling or anything so say 20mins or so each person? I'm not really sure what we should be doing on the day with regards to how long each person rides etc  So any advice would be really great :)

My advice would be to confirm with the people on the day ..... Experience says that there will be a few no shows so at least you will know and be able to get your coffee breaks planned! For that reason 5 would probably be fine.

Can you do a bit more 'refining' work before as well. For example, I would like to take work and character references if I was loaning out my horse to a relatively unknown person, so you could pre-warn them and try and see how committed they are.

Good luck in finding a great home.

Thanks canteron, do you think an hour each person is a good amount of time?
Yes my sister is compiling a data file on every person who is interested so we've got that covered ;) and they have to be in visiting distance so the poor lady in Perth who contacted her was told no

I think an hour is fine if you can split yourselves if necessary!!!

What I mean by that is could you do the horse bit, but if you really liked someone, then pass then over to your sister so she can discuss anything outstanding with them while you deal with the next person.

All the more reason with that timetable to text everyone in the morning to ask them to be on time and Confirm they know how to find you!

Brilliant thanks, my mum is going to be with her on the day as I go away on the weekends (they plan to do it on a saturday) and my sis wants to be involved in the whole lot this time as the last time she was hospitalised and had to put all her trust in us. She was really happy with our choice but understandably she'd like to be in control this time round :)
