To the OP - sorry I can't help you - I'm a bit far down to help - but I'm sure someone will come along shortly that will be able to help you!

Good luck with the moving :)

Thank Flo_Bell

Its not through choice of moving my husband is going and Im going with him, I really like Surrey and its going to be a really hard move for me.

Erm why bad luck?

Is it really that bad?

Not bad luck at all, Plymouth is great (half my family are Janners) could be a lot worse places to go to, I could name a few but I'd be bound to offend someone.

The only one I know that is still going is Crossways (could be called Livery, or Riding school, not sure now, was RS when I worked there) by The Rock in Yelverton. Not too far out of town and decent riding, there are a couple of other places around there I think too, also used to be a farm in Roborough that did livery.

hi cant help much with plymouth as i am a bit further up in newton abbot, but the surrounding area is great, if you have a box dartmoor is but a stone throws away.
you could try contacting a few of the local tack shops see if they have got any thing on the notice board, There are 2 in plypmton just outside plymouth.

Hi,
I am in Plymouth and may be able to help!! I have lived here 18 months but only bought my lad back in April. I had been in Shropshire previously and so I had to start from scratch finding the right livery yard, vet, farrier and trainer. It took a lot of word and month but I am really settled and happy here now!

First things first... what area of Plymouth are you moving to?! Do you drive? How many horses? Do you need stables?

I hope I can help!

I hope you can help too Becki1802.

I don't know the exact location as we haven't got our housing order through yet. I have 2 Geldings that at the moment live out 24/7 but they have been previously stabled and can live in or out. I do drive they are young and don't have any vices which is great.

Where abouts are you? I was looking at Sparkwell (Plympton way) Wembury Bay or Widewell.

It would be fab if you could help thank you sooo much.

Wembury has the Wembury Bay Riding School, lovely area. It may be worth a call to them even if you don't want to go there as they may be able to point you in the right direction. Where you will be will mean a lot - for example if you are willing to travel a little you could keep them on the moors!

I'm abit further up, near newton abbot, but it's really not that bad, just has a few rough areas! Riding in Devon is brilliant, if you can get up onto the moors, dartmoor is fab for hacking! The only place I know of in that area is Newton Ferrers Equestrian centre - although they might be abit big for you - i think the have an indoor & two outdoor schools, lots of turnout etc, and they have stunning off road hacking...

this is their website:

:)

We used to keep our horses at oxo's yard in Sparkwell, many moons ago, infact think that yard has now been converted to holiday lets? Sparkwell is a lovely place though and just a stones throw from the moors, would be back there in a shot.
There is some fantastic moorland riding around Plymouth, im not a lover of actual plymouth, before I get shot down I did live there for about 10 years and still visit regulary/work there! But for horse and out riding wow you couldnt have a more lovely place.
There are always lots of shows and comps going on and I hear the RC are very good, my friend keeps her horses in Saugh Prior and has a blast.
Good luck with your move, im sure you will love it.

I ride at newton ferrers, its a very nice place! Has a small indoor arena, an outdoor arena and another larger outdoor arena (think some works being done on it at the moment though) and it has a round pen. Loads of field space for the horses and acres of off road hacking. The people are lovely as well :D It is fairly big i guess, quite a few liverys, and it doubles as a riding school but thats fairly small.

Hey holzrokz!

Sounds fab, a round pen would be extremley useful as my boys are only 2 years and a couple of months! So I am bringing them on slowly.
Have you got a phone nubmber or address?
Also how far is that from Plymstock as I have my address now! ;-)

Thanks for the help ;-) x

Right, Plymstock is where I lived from a chld to my early 20's, so hopefully I can help. For livery, try Courtgates at Staddiscombe, PL9 9NA. I would consider that the riding will be rubbish, but it will be 10 minutes drive max. for you, not sure if your's are broken yet?

If you are visiting before you move here, try a vist to Serples, a mile from the A38 at Plympton to check out their message boards, also Tuckers at Ashburton - there is Tom Wilcocks at Plympton too. Check out this website http://www.websouthwest.co.uk/index.htm it may be useful, and this one might help too. http://www.equinetourism.co.uk/eventsandshows/eventssouthwestsep10.asp

Pm me if I can help anymore, good luck with your move. If you'e going into service quarters, you will also have easy access to the south hams!
