As title really.

Have some really nice leather reins which now need re-rubbering; and have given up on local tack shops as all they do is ship the work out to "saddlers" who think nothing of keeping an item for three months without even starting work on it and/or send it back with either the repair not done or not done properly :(

So am wondering if anyone knows of anyone on-line or offering a postal service so I could maybe send my reins off and have it done??

Thanks.

I have never even heard of this being done, I have many leather reined needing rubber, is is reasonable to do? in the past I have always had to buy a new pair, assuming it is cheeper!

This is something that saddlers used to do years ago, not sure if they still do. I would have thought that it would hardly be worth doing. My thoughts are that the reins would be weakened (perforated) by yet another row of stitching and I would not trust them.

Business type Master Saddlers

Kay re-rubbered reins for me years ago when she lived in Kenninghall, Norfolk before moving to Norwich. She also replaced a noseband from scratch to match a bespoke bridle I had had several years (original bespoke saddler went out of business), both were excellently done. The noseband was all done by post, the reins I took to her and collected afterwards as she was local to me then.
It's certainly worth contacting her to see if you can send by post.

Yes, Kay hand stitched my reins, not machine, so no problem in that respect. If you do contact Kay and have any luck, would be interested to know how it goes MiJods - My gorgeous Jeffries Bio-Grips cost me £62.50 last Sept. I'm sure they could be re-rubbered cheaper than replacing when the time comes.
