Thank you to all who replied to my thread about my old girl. Thank you also to the people who have Pm'd me. I will reply to all but wanted to say thankyou for taking the time to help. I have today tracked down a supplier in Derbyshire who had some Ready Mash Extra, so i drove across earlier and got a bag for her, she had a little bit for her tea and she ate it with relish!!
Im going to give her every possible chance to gain weight and am hoping she might when spring comes along BUT I would not let her go on if no visible improvement happens or she deteriorates, i will not go into another winter if her condition has not drastically improved as its not fair to her. I love her and would always put her welfare before my feelings.

Thank you again, ive had some lovely messages and advice, its very much apreciated. Ill keep you updated as to how we get on. Here is a pic from this week..

Awww, she looks cute and you're right, she looks very well in herself.

I'm glad she enjoyed her new grub, especially after your trip to get it for her, at least she's grateful. Hopefully she'll think breakfast is a good idea too until spring grass comes through.

I've got a 26 year old who I've had 20 years and at the moment he's a big, fat pig, but I'm dreading those early signs that he's not doing too well anymore ((hugs)).

Fingers crossed for an early spring of wonderful grass for your girl.

very best of luck.
have you tried Bailey's Conditioning Cubes, btw? mine love them, i use them as treats and they all scoff them immediately. (can send a small bagful in the post to you if you want to pm me your addy, so you can let her try them and see if she'll eat them before buying a whole bag.)
very best of luck, hope her appetite perks up.

I'm so pleased you have found something she likes, I hope she doesn't go off it. I hope it helps her and that she can at least have some sun on her back this summer.

Aw she looks like a sweetie. I know the feeling with oldies; I have a few oldies here but thankfully they are all doing very nicely weight-wise so I'm pretty happy with them. I can't advise on feed as ours is not like yours and I don't really know what is new on the market in England (I used Grow'n'Win to help put on some much needed pounds with my old palomino who was very undernourished on arrival at my farm, however I don't know the name of its equivalent over there). Hope Kelly picks up and does well soon.

Hi there, Havn't seen your original post on your mare but would like to say thats a lovely pic of her. Have you tried Triple Top Up (Badminton feeds) it comes in a 5kg tub. I used it on my boy who is very difficult to maintain/gain weight and he is coming on a treat.

Keep us posted! I was also interested in the product as I think it may suit my old chap. So I will be very interested to see how you get on.

Didn't see your first post, and I hope she improves.

If it helps, with my elderly TB who dramatically dropped weight at 22, I fed her equimins pro-bio and just this made a huge difference to her gut performance and she actually put on weight and held it and over time, I was able to reduce her feed from four big fattening feeds a day to two average conditioning ones.

Not expensive and maybe worth a go. I also found spillars conditioning cubes very good mixed with instant linseed and barley rings, soaked with hot water and then mixed with sugar beet and some molassed apple chaff - smelt so good I could have eaten it and she really enjoyed having warm food.

Hope she gains weight, Keltic. My oldie is going off his Show Improver, now, but it may be that he's fed up of the mix (they didn't have the pencils). Fingers crossed that Kelly puts on weight.
