that is great they where all skeltons and standing in knee poo when i asked to look at the horses he just slapped them to make them go to the back of the box i just wanted to take them home , what will they do for them ???

WHW World Horse Welfare will send one of their inspectors/welfare officers to check the horses out. You simply call WHW on their help line. Tel: 08000 480180.

Why not advertise in local tack shops/feed merchants fo the type of horse you are looking for and source it locally? Far more chance that locals will know it's true behaviour and history.

i thought that myself and everyone said i would be better with a dealer as they have no reason to lie but ive been shocked at the horses i have seen

Err sorry? You mean apart form the fact they are there to make money from the horse. A good owner might also want to get their much loved horse a nice new home.

Also phone WHW if you feel that you have seen something that should not be happening.

i am lookng in the sussex and kent area but both of these were in sussex, i cant believe that people can just leave animals standing in their own poo and they had no water , and no food i would not even sit on the horses i felt so sorry for them but you would think if they were selling them they would look after them more

for a first horse for yourself and your daughter - I dont know what age your daughter is, but if you are looking at a first pony/horse - how about contacting your local pony club?

and agree with the others about reporting the dealers....

Hi, I bought my older boy (he's 8) from Emma at Clipclop traders in Lewes. He is brilliant. I knew when I bought him he had a history in Ireland (he's been abused by someone but definately NOT Emma) but today after an initial blip he really worked for me and gave me a seriously nice trot for a long time (6 x 20m circles and across the long diagonal), I am mega pleased with him. He is exactly as described and all her horses are well cared for. They aren't shown plaited up and groomed to within an inch of their lives but they are happy and horses. I think some other people on HHO have bought from Emma too and are happy so I would definately give her a look. She is also extremely honest so just be straight with her and hopefully you'll find a really nice horse like I have.

PM if you want more info.

Very, very difficult situation.
The bad ones seem to be a law unto themselves.
I have had major problems with a dealer close to Lewes and have since found out they have been closed down twice and reopened trading as a different name.
If it that blatently obvious they are mistreated report them to whoever will listen.
I agree though with the person who said advertise locally. I have learned the hard way that (some) dealers are there to make money and don't care about the consequences of selling unsafe/unsuitable horses.
Good luck

thats sounds great i will try clip clop trader so what other dealer should i go to then, and what other ones should i not bother i have 2000 to spend and it must be a first horse as my daughter is only 12 and we need to share

That's quite a tight budget for the sort you will need, but you may be lucky as it's winter. I'm not sure a dealer will sell that sort of sensible horse for that price, so it probably is worth looking at private ads. Make sure you are very certain it's the right one, and get a full vetting. Fingers crossed for you.

Sorry but I agree with this. you are really going to struggle to get something. I know cos I have only just recently bought one. I tried loads and loads I would also say that you need to be first to see, if not it won't be worth travelling for!!!!!!!! In fact as I was looking for something similar a nearly a first horse but forward going and sensitive to leg aids. I can't say how much you need to be the first one! Especially as you want what everyone wants (so did I) and if its not suitable for the first or 2nd person it would not be for you either.

Also another one to avoid is one that says kick along, or if they tell you it needs a good amount of leg, as your daughter will spend so much energy kicking she will lose her position. (been there too lol)
