Re;stolen horse from kent...the thief has been prosecuted AND....

Outrageous - we might as well all trot off and steal our horses rather than buy them - its a lot cheaper!!

What the hell is the world coming to?

very true however as the woman tried to take others from the yard i dont think there is any link in particular to the horse she managed to take or its owner

all the concerns me is this person is from maidstone - stole a horse from swanley and didnt think she'd get caught.
to be honest it worries me someone so local to myself could do such a thing.
im just glad my YO's live on site and this whole thing has made me realise i will never ever move to a yard where there is no one on site 24/7

I have asked Kent Police to provide the details of the Court result so that we can all know the correct outcome and should be able to update you later today.....then you can get back to Police and justice system bashing with all the facts......

I'm sorry there isn't an awful lot more to this case - the woman went to the yard, stole the horse (in the middle of the night I believe) and was arrested and had to pay £60 court costs - that is disgusting!!

In my eyes, theft of any animal or pet is far more serious a crime than the theft of any other material posessions as they are living breathing creatures who feel fear, stress and seperation anxiety - as do their owners!

This woman should be locked up and publically named for what she's done.... if it would have been my horse she'd stolen and I had found her she wouldn't have made it to court!

well done be good to know all the facts properly.

I believe this woman has done this before with 4 other horses and was responsible for the theft of Dolly (black 4 white socks from same area) who has been heavily publicised but still never found

Hmmm ... I wonder if I know the woman concerned

Do you know if she has lots of kids?

Bloomin scary as you said - to think its someone from our area and who I could possibly now! Its disgraceful and what a crappy outcome. I got more of a fine and points for having an accident let alone stealing something!! grrr

Well maybe by naming, shaming and posting a picture up of her somewhere along with her vehicle details at least horse owners + yards in the area can be on the lookout for her. and anyone purchasing a horse from her might think twice. she must have been to the yard in the past to do a recce, especially if she struck in the night.

Thank you!!

I am with Weezy on this one. I find it impossible to comment without hearing the correct details, but I find it hard to believe that it's a clear cut as made out here...

Lucky the stolen horse didn't tread on her and cause injury while she was stealing it or the thieving cow would probably have claimed compensation and doubtless won considerably more than a poxy £60.

Modern English justice, pah - "Life on Mars" may have a point ...

She had no intention of selling the horse, she took her because she "wanted" her.

She has her own horse that she never rides and her capability of looking after horses is somewhat questionable!

I spend many hours typing up spurious claims for those angling for compensation and who are in fact taking the P. It is inclined to make you a tad twisted about all things legal!!

Following the overnight theft of a horse where it was walked away from a locked yard, vigilance at another yard, and a check of a microchip identified this horse which has now been returned to its owner.

A 24 year old woman, Hanna Dixon from Maidstone, has appeared in court and has received a 12 month conditional discharge, and in addition has costs of £60 awarded against her.

Details released with the permission of Kent County Constabulary press office

what was she charged for? theft & hiding stollen goods? I guess it makes no difference to the legal system whether its a £10 book or a £5000 horse.

I believe it was theft, they didn't specify..it may be she has just pleaded to handling. either way, the outcome is dependent on a person's ability to pay, an early guilty plea and various other factors..and if they plead guilty they can throw in any number of mitigating factors to improve their position as none of these are likely to be challenged.

We all know stealing is wrong, but at least in this case she will have this on her record, even if she hasn't been hung, drawn and quartered as some would like

I think it is appalling, I think I might move in with Flash to keep an eye on him! I can't begin to imagine how the poor owner of the horse felt, absolutely beside herself I imagine.

I also think it is downright discusting, it shouldnt matter what she can offord to pay (with her circumstances) just slap her with a bloody hefty fine and costs to the owner even if its payable over years then she may be less likely to go out and STEAL someones animal again in the future, if she had stole any of mine and I had found her she would never have managed to walk to the bloody court but I bet my fine would have been higher.......but then I would have gladly payed it at least I would have a small amount of satisfaction
