Re: 'Taliban'

Dont know where it came from, perhaps another forum. But I always liked "Barefoot Mafia"

Much more positive term :D

And I am a member, 2 out of 3 of mine are now barefoot :D

Well I accept that if I am going to open a barefoot thread I might well read it.

I'm with Clava a bit.. language evolves the original meanings can change and a word associated with other things. That isn't just a personal thing and therefore it is not just me that is responsible for my own associations, and I do think I am entitled to my thought that it is inappropriate (its not like I have moaned on every thread that it is used on and I'm the one that has to deal with my own cringing ;) )

Also it was also not originally used on this board in its original meaning, it was used as a derogatory term which people then adopted in a lighthearted way so to say it is fine because it actually means seeker of knowledge smacks a little of twisting things round to suit, to me anyway.

That's is what I thought. I still feel its a bit of a mockery of people who keep horses barefoot tbh. A bit like "here they go again with their hippy, no horses should wear shoes bananas" sort of thing. Which is probably why people don't like to be associated with it and insist it should be "unshod".

I just think you have to be extremely intelligent to be a BFT. Any old goon can do unshod... :D

Tongue in cheek people, tongue in cheek! :D

If being good natured about an insult can take away the aggression and remove the insult and other meanings which have relevence exist then again, I don't see it as negative. A different way of looking things, even if twisted a little, can have a positive outcome.

Did someone say "Nowt decent on the box" sometime up thread? I'll have you know that Downton is on soon, and My Friend Ken is in it. I believe he's going to make a brief but absolutely stunning and memorable appearance in a farmyard scene where the kitchen maid goes to visit her father-in-law...

I do agree with that Clava, just don't think I can make myself feel comfortable about the term :o am not generally a finickity soul!

I've always preferred being a Sinister Cultist, anyway. :)

what a lot of fuss over nothing.

i've said this before, but i really think sometimes people go looking for something to be offended over.
