I recently asked on here how to travel my bitch best, as she got very car sick. It was severe, she'd be puking within minutes.... and I had to travel her on holiday.
I went to the vets and got some tablets. I bought an enclosed carrier for her. Prior to travelling I gave her a tablet (at the correct time), a ginger biscuit, and put her in her crate with a toy, newspaper and a blanket. We put her in the car and set off.
Half an hour down the road the howling became too much, as we looked to stop. Then the stench... oh my God!!! So we stopped, and the poor girl was pasted in cr** and vomit
the tablets had NOT agreed with her. We washed her with a bottle of water and an old towel we had, rinsed the carrier out and returned her to the boot (after she had a drink). Her blanket and toys were beyond help, and had to be binned.
She carried on howling, until she was so tired she just lay panting. It was a case of just trying to get there quick to lessen her distress by that point.
Upon arrival, some two hours later (heavy traffic) she was soaked in saliva and more vomit. Thankfully I could shower her off, and she spent the rest of the day asleep, albeit on the veranda, she didn't want to be inside. She drank a lot though!
There was a vet over the road, but luckily she was perked up and bouncy again by tea time.
She had a lovely holiday, playing in the sea and spending days on the beach. Shops welcomed her, and she seemed to forget about her horrific journey.
On the way home I simply put her in her carrier with newspaper.
We had a quiet journey home, not a peep from her.
Journey took much longer (again, traffic) and got home to one dry as a bone little girl who hopped out of her carrier and went "oooh, that was fun!"
Moral of the story? an enclosed carrier (crate with blanket over will do), newspaper and a completely empty belly.
