It's a popular post isn't it? That 8ft between us and the ground is both exhilarating and terrifying. Mind you, they're just as dangerous on the ground.

P.S. Last time I came off was two weeks ago and it was the first time in almost 30 years. Ye Gods. No damage done though.

Whoa..you stayed on for almost 30 years?!?!
I thought it was an achievement when I didn't fall off for 6 weeks!

, well done for staying on that long and am glad no damage was done.

Last fell off last week. Mare features spooked big style at the horse eating monster in the hedge lol. Was fine but anoyed at myself as obviously didn't have butt firmly in the saddle. She's usually so level headed, guess it goes to show you can never trust even in the arena.

No sorry, didn't explain that too well. Didn't ride for many of those 30 years (god that makes me sound older than, well, god). So track record not so impressive..

Used to fall off all the time when young. Bit of shock to be doing it again after all those years. Will probably do it again tomorrow - jumping lesson and I appear to be deeply rubbish at it this time round.

Four years ago now!!!! nad that was only cos horse stumbled after a fence and happened to put in a buck at the same time.... I actually remember being in mid air and thinking where's the floor!!! Then I found it!!! initially suspected fractured skull... but thankfully no damage done! previous to that was 22 years of staying firmly in the saddle!

oh far too long ago sigh !!! but i've not ridden since may when i found out i was pregnant i have 5 weeks left to go . . any tips on speeding up the process safely

Now didn't you find it not as bad as you were expecting??

I came off last year as one of my horses went to play with some cattle - he was not sure about the herd he was expected to work and as one faced him up, he freaked! I eventually came off him as he bronced about the arena - pretty spectacular by all accounts LOL!! It was the first time I had come off in about the same length of time as you and I have to say it was nowhere near as bad as I had been thinking it might be after all those years of not falling off, LOL!!

Not that I won't be happy to live another 30 years without coming off mind you.

Thinking back I havent had a fall since 17 Im 30 now, I had a cold and felt poop was jumping novice poked my self in the eye with my crop and just dropped off the side when dobbin refused.

Touch Wood! I haven't fallen off archie since I have had him!! Which is bout 3 years. Used to fall of my ponies every other day!!

Am most definitely mad!! Before I got my youngster, I had a gap of about 5 years, which was great!
Then I managed a year and a half before coming off him the first time.... then came off last year, and then last month jumping!
Mind you, last year's one was warming up for a jumping lesson and having done trotting poles before, he decided he couldn't possibly cope with a yellow and black one and stopped! Yes, I have to admit, I fell off over a trotting pole!!!

Last month was quite spectacular though - posted about it after it happened and am still suffering with pulled tendons in my shoulder...

Oh there was sand/grit in my hair, in my ears, in my eyes - you name it, it was in there, LOL!!

Horse bucked and twisted and flew through the air - I decided it was time to bale out, so took my feet out of my stirrups and when horse landed on ground, I made my dash for it. Unfortunately horse decided to continue flying and as I was flipping my right leg over saddle, he went up and took my leg....and me with him.

What fun. But no I didn't hurt myself at all and it was a pleasant surprise.

I last fell off about 2 years ago, jumping. He carried on round and jumped the next 2 fences as if to say don't need you, can do it better on my own. I had owned my boy for 3 years then and never fallen off him so had become a bit of a bogey, it had to happen sooner or later, and yes it was my own fault!
