Reaction to Flu/Tet Jab?

Hi

My boy had his flu/tet jab on tuesday, also had dentist same day so was sedated. Came round from sedation fine after about an hour, seemed ok for rest of day eating/drinking etc. Yesterday he came in as lame as a duck, hobbled up lame in both front and hind leg on side of flu/tet jab, checked him over thoroughly there was no swelling anywhere, no heat, no injuries/stones to feet. Turned him back out (own paddock), this morning still really lame but a swelling to Flu/tet jab site which he is really reluctant to let me touch. Have phoned vets they advised that this might be due to swelling at injection site and if its not sorted after weekend to give them a call. Anyone else had this after flu tet jab - seem to recall reading something on here but cant find it. Thanks

Yes, my horse had a reaction - not as severe as that but his neck was extremely sore and stiff for several days and he seemed down and lethargic in himself.

Mine always reacts, she can't put her nose to the floor comfortably for a day or two. Had it in her chest this year and went lame. I can't wait until she retires and I can stop putting her through it!

When the Shetland had her first injection last year, she was not good for a few days. Her neck swelled up where she had the injection & her head was down to the floor at times. It worried me, but the vet said to give her a few day. She wasn't lame at all though. I have just had all the horses boosters done today & I am hoping she will be OK.

I feel for you, I bet you are worrying a lot. I hope all goes well for you both.

One of my mares had a bad reaction to the flu jab during the snow last winter. About an hour after the jab she looked a bit stiff walking then a couple of hours on she was walking like she couldn't bend any of her joints. She had only a small swelling on her neck but her whole body bent around her neck so she was making a cresent shape with her body. She then wouldn't move and looked like she was about to collapse. I called the vet and he thought it was a reaction not to the jab itself but to 'filler' used to bulk out/bind the vaccination. I was reccomended to keep her in while the weather was so bad and put her on bute. I don't know if the ground hadn't been so lethal if it would have been better for her to be moving around outside rather that stable her but in the conditions she could have had a worse accident falling over. She improved rapidly over the next couple of days but it probably took a couple of weeks of stiffness before she was back to normal mobility.
