Zara had her annual flu/tetanus jab on Monday. She always has it in her chest as she reacts quite badly to it and cannot put her head down to eat for a few days if done in her neck.

This time, when I got her in from the field, she had been sweating so much that it looked like she had been galloping around the field for hours. None of the others were like this so she obviously hadn't been galloping about so I was wondering whether she'd had a more violent reaction to her tetanus jab. She still seems a bit subdued now although there appears to be nothing physically wrong.

My brother used to loan a horse that couldn't have a tetanus injection as he reacted so badly it nearly killed him. Has anyone else had any problems with this vaccination?

I thought that it was flu that most reacted to?

My friends horse could only have tetnus as flu jabs he had awful reaction.

Fingers x that she is ok though.

It's definitely the tetanus as she has flu every year and that doesn't cause a problem. The tetanus is every two years and it's then she has a reaction. Perhaps it's the combination of them both.

I have one who reacts badly to the tetanus vacc. I usually try and have it done separately from his flu jab, and make sure he can have 5 or so days off after. Vet is good and now gives us bute for those days just to help him be more comfortable.
