Readigrass?

I bought a bag today and it seems to be thicker stalks and not as soft.... Top Spec do one and there is also one called Just Grass - the name of the company escapes me.....

yes, iv noticed a decline in the quality, lots more 'rough' stalks and more dusty bits left in the bag too. The Greedy pig of a horse hasnt complained once though lol

I haven't bought any recently. We are using up a bag of TopSpec grass which is coated in soya oil (ll I could get in the summer when dried grass was in short supply) and will go back to Northern Cropdriers Graze-on when that is finished. I prefer it to Readigrass because it is mixed grasses, while RG is rye grass.

Used to be soft. Last bald I got had horrible spiky bits that cut my hands! Have not purchased since. Nags aren't fussed on it either.

My lastest bag seems ok. I don't get it often as a bag lasts almost forever... interested what they reply with to email, jenni999.

Yes I've noticed a difference in the quality but the horse hasnt. He has been on it pretty much since i got him nearly 7 months ago. Our spring grass didnt really come through so thats why I started him on it and now its just routine he has a tub trug bucket of it a night tied in his stable (otherwise he jumps on the bucket so its tied into a corner, lol) because he is spoilt :o

I think just grass is harder and stalker than redigrass, but must say drives me mad how it seems to be filled from the side of the bag not the top which makes it so difficult to put into the bins..... Any ideas ??

I buy Graze On, it's a lot softer and I've had those sharp Readigrass stalks going up into the quick of my nail. It's more like pine needles!

I've written to them saying I'm not happy with it - interesting to see what reply I get back, if any...

Yeah, will be interested to hear what they say too. I buy it in for the Guinea pig stud and did notice the last bale was terribly dusty. Very 'bitty'. I had to grab each handful and give it a good shake to remove all the dusty and tiny particles before feeding it. Wasted about 1/5th of the bag this way.

That's exactly what it's like, yes! I only bought it once and none of the horses I had at the time would touch it at all anyway. Might try one of the other brands now I know from this thread all dried grass products aren't that sharp.

I have fed ReadiGrass for donkey's years, and have had the odd unacceptable bag. I have contacted the manufacturer twice, with no response either time. I have found that when a bag is not fit for purpose, it's usually at the end of the season, ie autumn. I did try Top Spec's Grass last year and felt it was a good alternative. Just Grass and Graze On were like feeding pine needles, in my experience.

Regarding choke: I NEVER feed ReadiGrass or Top Spec Grass dry...never, never, never! The one time I did, my late Clyde had choke for the first and only time. My pet sheep love those two products dry, and even they will cough a bit when eating them.

I have two unopened bags of RG, so perhaps when I finish my present bag (which is divine in smell and texture), I'll be faced with the course, sharp bits others have described.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I feed mine as a token bucket feed (and damp) so a bale lasts ages altho this last bale isn't packed as tight and should imagine I'll get through it in no time. Mine are stil eating it but it's dusty, a dull green and very stalky.

I just opened a bale of ReadiGrass I bought a couple of weeks ago and it is paler in colour and more coarse in texture than what I am accustomed to feeding when using the product. It smells okay and isn't dusty at all. Perhaps the weather, sunlight (or lack thereof), soil, and time of harvest have altered that with which we are familiar. It does, however, look like a different grass.
