Reading a leg x-ray

In the interests of bettering my anatomical knowledge, I wondered if anyone could identify the reason for the area in the circle? The gap in the whiteness of the cannon bone. I think it’s a normal finding as it’s on both legs, and equal in appearance but I can’t figure out what would cause it? It doesn’t feel like interference in the image from the medial splint bone as the angle is wrong. I’m sure there are anatomy enthusiasts here who can help me understand.

Is it the same thing that causes this black spot (circled blue) on the dorsoplantar view? Ignore the red circle on this one, it’s the area the vet felt may have suffered trauma to the bone surface.

Haha I searched on line for ages and couldn’t find anything explaining it. Then as soon as I realised they coincided with the black hole on the DP image, the penny dropped! Thanks for confirming!
