daisy had three weeks off with a sore back following brusing from her saddle. The vet has checked that it is nothing more serious and is happy for me to start riding her again. he reckoned she was really unfit and to start with gentle fittening. i asked how much and he said until she starts to sweat slightly. she's been back in work for a week now, we went out for an hour's hack tonight and she felt really springy and offered to canter twice on the bridlepath when we were trotting. Do you reckon she'd be okay if I introduced a little bit of canter on a hack or would you say I'm rushing her?

Difficult question. If she's offering canter then I'd be tempted to let her go. I find with my girls that once they've cantered they loosen up loads.

If she is offering then let her have a short blast, assuming you have brakes of course!!!!

They are normally pretty good at letting us know if they are unhappy doing anything

I would let her just break into canter naturally for a week or so if she wants to go just let. If you are a bit worrid you could always just lunge her on a canter for few weeks to get her fitness up a bit and then ride her in canter.
