Hello everyone, I am new here :)

I am 23 years old and currently have no transport for my horse, I am desperate to get out competing again and need some advice on the best options.

I am thinking of taking a trailer test, but need some advice on how much a reliable 4x4 would cost? The other option is to get a 3.5 ton horsebox but only the older versions are within my price range (£3500) and I am worried that I would buy something unreliable...

Thanks for reading :)

I got a very reliable diatsu fourtrak for £995 - absolutely fab car. Was a godsend in the snow and has never failed me ever!!

I have towed my trailer with a subaru legacy, a landrover, a nissan and a grand espace. All have been fine. I currently have to borrow a towing car, so have had a nosy on ebay and there are loads of cheap 4x4s on there.

Keep in mind that the lighter 4x4s are not always legal for towing the weight of a horse and trailer...

Re a horsebox, they cost a lot to get through their test each year, so can work out much more expensive, and then you have to insure them etc..

£3500 will buy you a money pit 3.5 lorry!!! I would buy a tidy newish trailer for about £3000 that should be safe and will last then buy a fortrak, pajero or trooper for about £1000 and trade up when you can afford just get a mecanic to check it over before you buy .....
