So, had a bit more blue sky so thought I'd give round two a go before having to shell out for a pro!!

So I think that the front legs might be too close together in these two shots.

Think this is possibly the best of the shots, however is the off hind too far under? and also the tail is hiding the near hock

This image is not quite so sharp so doesn't show off his colour so well and I think it also makes him look a bit common?

He's looking the wrong way, his hock is hidden again and is the off hind too far under again?

This is one from the other day that I forgot to show. It's still a bit shadowy and the legs are not ideal and the tail is hiding the off hock.

So, will any of these do? Now I've criticised them all I think probably not. But welcome your opinions again please, but this time just on the photos. I know to try and aim him uphill, to get the legs right and make sure the neck is in the right place. But he was too interested in other stuff to stand still for long.

This is just a suggestion but would he look better facing the other way or am I just being picky. Meant in a nice way though.

Definitely the 3rd pic.

I'd not bother with getting a pro in until he gets his summer coat through again- he looks a little wooly!!

Funny you should say that though, as that was the first thought that came into my mind too when I looked at these photos. I think it is the off-fore with the short stocking that is making it look not quite right from this side, but I agree with Taylor in that most stallions are photographed with the plaits/mane away from the photographer.

Taylor, you are so close to getting the perfect shot that I can feel your pain! Been there and its so frustrating.

I actually prefer 4! Is there any way you can sharpen it? I know I used to be able to sharpen mine but can't think how or what with as I only use Paint or Photobucket!
Can't find Karen's contact details BTW, sorry.

I don't like how the light has made his near fore look discoloured, it makes it look like he has had something on his legs.

I also agree with the woolie coat not being the best time of the year to take photos. Will you be clipping him before the spring, a freshly clipped horse would look better.

He is lovely though.

he is going to the expo in Feb and I need to get a conformation shot in - the deadline was supposed to be tomorrow! So I have to make do with the wooliness.

Clipping is his only realy flaw so I try to only do it once a year. Am currently aiming for mid to end of Jan so he looks his best for the regionals and also the stallion show.

As this is my first proper year of promoting him for breeding I will try and take many more pics throughout the year so that next year I will not be in this situation!!

I know about which way they should face, but just a fore leg conformation suggestion. Why not take some and we can have a look. (Please)

T-E,

there really isn't an easy way to tell you this. The pics are crap!! Sorry, but they are. You'd be better off with your first attempt, and God knows that was bad enough!!

He's a very attractive horse, and YOU aren't helping him!! FIND YOURSELF A PHOTOGRAPHER!!

I'm really glad to hear that you're going to the Stallion Expo. Those who see your horse, in the flesh, should be pleasantly surprised!!

Alec.

I wouldn't go with any of them sorry! Don't like the trees in the background either, too distracting. I'd use the with bandages shot for the expo & get better ones without bandages for other stuff.

looking again, I think one of the problems is you are too close to him and so the angles are wrong and he is looking at you - a photographer would use a bigger lens and be further away - I think.

I do think though, that it is worth investing in decent photos, after all, stallion owners want mare owners to invest far more in buying semen than one decent photographer would cost

I think no.4- It is a touch out of focus yes, but it is the only one, out of all of them where his legs/bottom is in the right place. I dont have a problem with his wooly coat at all, somehow he can pull it off as he's a lovely rich colour.

I don't like any of the pictures either. Sometimes you just have to make a point of paying to get good pictures for marketing purposes.

d4e5f6, what has this got to do with anything (the poster is talking about pictures), and what are you trying to imply about this stallion when you say people should be "pleasantly surprised"?

Should I pass you a shovel for your hole?

Thanks Kerilli. He is by Fidermark out of a Darlington mare. IF you want to see him move he has 30 seconds of him loose in the school on you tube. Just look up videos by me and you should be able to find it.

Opie has very kindly played around with a couple of the pics so that could have helped me out with the shots for now.

he is lovely, and a great colour, I hope to be at the expo so look forward to seeing him in the flesh - I like the 4th photo best , whats his name?

I don't think many professionals would have managed to get a nicer shot than no. 3. He is stood a bit better in 4 though, and perhaps if a professional had managed to pull that one off it would have been worth it. They can't do a lot about him not holding his tail where you need it though. I think that is just something either you or they would have to persevere through.
Given that its clear from the shadow length and trees that it is winter, I don't think he looks too wooly at all.
I probably would have tried some from the other side too though; when you look closely you can see that theres nothing wrong with this side, but at first glance his offside leg looks much more substantial than the nearside, which I think is to do with the stocking immediately drawing your attention to the off fore. With the white leg in front, I think you would get a better sense of perspective on the picture and that would make him look more balanced (defitely not saying he isn't balanced, cos he looks stunning, just that the optical effect of the legs would be better).
