If your horse naps on the way into the ring, are you allowed to dismount, lead it in and get back on again?

I'm going to a show this weekend and it's the first time I've taken Canto out jumping in the ring. I'm hoping I won't have any problems, but if I did would I get in trouble for getting off?

It's probably obvious, but I've never had to think about it before!

Pretty sure you can.

Im also sure that unless you have gone through the start theoretically you could fall off and get back on again!

I think you need to enter mounted, but definately ok to have a lead in either by hand or another horse (cause I've led someone in on mine)

NO idea, but you can lead someone in, either with another horse or on foot - I've done both for someone whose horse napped into the ring.

Yes, just looked up the rules and it states:

"Competitors must enter the arena mounted and through the designated entrance. Failure to do so without prior permission of the Judge may incur elimiation at the Judge's discretion.

Competitors may be led into the arena by an assistant who may be mounted or on foot. The assistant must leave the arena immediatly the competitor is inside."

I'm pretty sure that BSJA rules state that you must enter and leave the ring mounted, unless you fall off in which case you will be eliminated. Just off to look at the rule book so I'll get back to you!

This is correct - friend of mine has a napppy horse - can get a lead into the arena but cannot get off.

That's great - so long as I know! I'll have someone on hand to grab him just in case he decides he doesn't fancy it lol! I'm sure we'll be fine, but he can be a complete git, so I don't want to take any chances

If you speak to the judges nicely before you can get permission to walk them in and then get a leg up on.

A friend of mine has to do this as has a little sh!t that wont go in the ring!

But you can most certainly be lead in.

I find the best way to get in the ring is to canter towards the gate and keep cantering in, just warn others around you first

The rule has changed for this year - previously you could go into the ring anyway you liked, as long as you got on etc.
However in the 2008 rule books, you must have prior permission of the judges - note not the steward - I've been disqualified for getting on in the ring this year after asking the steward..

I def don't think you can lead into the ring certainly not at any SJ evcent under BSJA rules. Maybe a small local show you could get away with if you've asked them. Have you tried reversing your horse in? I have a pony who sometimes refused to go forward but turn him round and he can reverse in the direction you want to go no probs! I don't think it stipulates what way you have to be facing when you enter the arena!!
