I ran to the shop this morning to pick up a copy of H&H as my horse's for sale ad is in there and I wanted to see what it looked like. Only to find they have put the wrong phone number on it!!!! AArrgh. They have added an extra digit in the middle to make my mobile number 14 digits long.

I called the office, only to be told, that they will run the ad again with the correct number, but will not annotate it with "re-advertised due to wrong number". This ad cost me over £250. I am seriously not impressed. Do they not proof read it? You would think they would at least check the phone numbers were the right amount of digits surely.

When you see a horse advertised twice running, what do you think?

If you were interested in a horse in the H&H, but the phone number was wrong, would you think to look on the website or contact the H&H office to try to get the right number, or would you just choose a different horse to ring about?

Thanks

My daughters pony was on the Horse magazine website with the wrong number. So i called the office they e mailed the e mail addy from the person who had placed ad, the correct number was given , they called me and I called the owner. We now have a lovley 13'3 pony that makes my daughter smile every day.

If someone wants the horse they will find out the correct number dont panic

hi if i was u id at least ask for some sort of reduction for the ad or even free as like u said some people may think there is a prob with your horse ? also ask them to ad to advert re-advertised due to wrong no printed , to be honest everyone knows how long a no should be so ur sale may just be delayed , good luck anyway .

Exactly! Not to mention the next week of training which isn't cheap!!! They will not put why the ad is repeated, they said the management would not allow it. They will not give any compensation. I have concidered demanding a refund, but that could be cutting off my nose to spite my face. I think it is disgraceful, taking over £250 off me, for a service they have done wrong!!

May be worth trying to dial that number, will it ring the person without the last digit?. I don't know if that is what would happen but if it does and they seem ok, they may give out the right number to any callers they get?

I have tried. They have offered an extra week free, but I don't think that will help. I notice horses that are advertised for 2 weeks running...let alone 3! I think that gives me less chance of selling her in a way.

I wish I knew how to put links on here, and I could put my ad on as a bit of extra coverage!

H&H cock up so many adverts and we dont advertise very often. We've had the wrong picture, wrong heading , been in the wrong section, been charged the wrong amount. And I always notice errors when I am scanning through.
Plus I always notice horses that are in twice but assume they are doing the 2nd week free deal.
I would insist the put in readvertised due to wrong phone number - ask to speak to the manager

I think I will. If they put
"re-advertised due to wrong phone number"
it's not like putting
"we printed the wrong number coz we are crap"
is it !?

I will speak to a manager tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

I dont think it means you have less chance of selling her. I have been looking for a while and it wouldnt put me off. I would just think its the time of year. It is typical however, when you want it sold quickly! In this weeks edition, there are couple of pictures against the wrong adverts.

They should definitely give you the option of a refund - who's to say you'd still want to advertise with them? There are plenty of other places to sell a horse. I appreciate cock-ups happen, but they should make appropraite amends when they do.

Seriously - don't you think there must be someone with enough brains to proof-read EVERYTHING before it goes to print? When these obvious mistakes are glaring at you, e.g 'Registered Shetland' with a pic. of a Hunter, they lose all credibility? I really hate spelling mistakes, let alone miss-matching of adverts. I would be very annoyed if it happened to me. Come on, H&H, you have the technology now, so there's no excuse. Even the spell-check on my PC recognises when 'jodhpurs' is spelt wrong!!!

Dear Rainbowrider

Please accept our apologies once again for the error in your magazine advert. We do our best to ensure that all adverts are published as accurately as possible, but on the odd occasion errors do slip through, especially on a busy press day. We understand the frustration you must be feeling at the current time and hope that the full compensation we have offered will go someway towards alleviating this. Anyone who feels aggrevied about an advert they have placed with Horse & Hound is welcome to contact us directly as it is not appropriate to discuss individual cases on a public forum.

Kind regards
