i have dropped my mares price down by a considerable amount, have had phonecalls for her but the callers are nowhere near suitable, have told EVERYONE i know that she is for sale, have been incontact with endless dealers who only want to give me £1500.........

i REALLY dont know what to do, she has to go within the next 2 weeks - EX is being very very difficult and i may be having to go to court

I am so stuck - please can someone give me a sugestion that will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well from what I remember I dont think she was worth more than 2.5 anyway TBH so 1.5 from dealer isnt that bad

I would take the dealers offer - but make sure its a nice place she is going to and put her in the box yourself - If she has to go - get rid

I thought that you were going to buy another ?

im not getting another one - am taking a break from horses completley. TBH really cant afford to take 1.5k - not when taking into consideration what i paid for her plus the breaking etc etc

Well if thats what people are offering for her and you want rid - 1.5 is what you will have to take at this stage.

Why dont you loan her out?

do you have a link to an up to date advert ?

i cant loan her out - problems with my ex mean that is impossible.

the advert has now finished - cant get anyother pics as digi cam is broken - is all word of mouth now.

i need her gone but cant afford to take a loss

Well just think though - the longer you have her the more she is costing you so you might aswell just sell and cut your losses - or you could send her to the sales and put a reserve on her - not something I'd do but you may have to ?

you also need to get her advertised properly word of mouth will not reach enough people - every tack shop put her advert in - supermarket - work - post office - all the cheap free sites - put her up - and also spend a bit and get her in horse and hound sales too x

Good luck mind.

I'm thinking that, given the time constraints, you may be choosing between £1.5k and £0. To give you an idea, I have my eye on a 14.2hh 12yo mare who goes well in the school and is a nice hack, and she's been on the market for eight weeks now at £1.8k. She isn't as pretty as yours, but in her favour, she also isn't as young, and since her quirks (doesn't like having her girth tightened, doesn't stand well for mounting, etc.) seem to be putting the few potential buyers off, I'm waiting to see if the owner will drop her price. Unless your mare was special, £2.5k sounds a lot for a 4yo, and you're selling to a smaller market; her age will put off buyers who are lacking in confidence or ability or who want a mature horse.

Money is in short supply at the moment. Plus within the next week or so all the kids will be selling their horses as they go off to univerity/college and have gap years and you will be lucky to get £500 from a dealer.

Sounds to me like to need a good solicitor from a specialist familly law practice to act on behalf of your interests.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I think that you're better off taking the £1.5k.

If she 'MUST' go in the next 2 weeks, I don't see that you have any other option. Holing out for someone to pay £2.5k in this climate within the next 2 weeks is optimistic at best.

I'm afraid you don't really have a lot of choices at the moment. I'd act now and take £1.5k, better that than to wait and end up with a horse you don't want that is costing you more and more and you won't get anything for.

Sorry. Good luck though.

so what exactly is it that i do then?? she has to go - ideally within the next couple of weeks. Everyone thats called about her are bloody numpties!!!!!!!!!!!!! (she is advertised as an experianced ride only - had a 14yr old girl call that had been riding for 6 months and her mum said that her and my horse would grow together - WTF).

Cant afford to pay £60 to advertise her in HH, she is on horsemart and freeads atm plus word of mouth, am hoping to get around the local tackshops etc this weekend, have called various dealers from the net, its REALLY starting to get too much for me now, i cant afford to pay £400 a month to keep her and i really DONT know what to do or where to turn to now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

think of it this way...if she stays with you til sept that is 1200 quid paid out...

1500 + 1200 = 2700....

i like your thinking JM07 - same as what my mums been saying.
TBH im sat here in tears now as im really at the end of it. Have so much going on with the EX and this really isnt helping. Just keep feeling that im taking 2 steps forward and being knocked 10 back. Once I can get someone out to see her that understands shes a baby that NEEDS work then i know theyll take her straight away.

I just need someone to come up, give me the cash and take her away - its breaking my heart but i need to do it

Bird in the hand and all that.....if she really has to go, take the money......like JM said, how much will she cost you to keep between now and september?...and once we go into winter, they do get harder to sell..and they cost more to keep.

We all would like an extra £500 or so when we come to sell.and its the easiest thing in the world to value your own stock.....the true value of any item is what you can get for it...what someone else is willing to pay...so far someone else has only been willing to pay £1500.........you bought something unbroken so with potential?........different thing now you are selling a newly broken horse..sorry if this seems a bit harsh, we have all been there at some point when we think our animals are worth than we can get for them.

[/ QUOTE ]Erm, I kind of thought I'd made it clear, but perhaps not. Sell her to the dealer for £1,500. If you pick a good dealer they will school her and bring her on, and yes, they may get a lot more for her than you could, but then they will have put the time into her and they will be finding the right sort of home for her afterwards - not 14yo girls who have just started riding.

As JM07 says, if you hang on for your £2.5k you'll be shelling out £400 for every month that she doesn't shift, and if it takes you three months to sell her, then you will have spent £1,200 in livery fees, so out of your £2,500 (assuming you ever get that) you will actually have made just £1,300. To spell out the obvious, that is LESS than if you had just accepted £1,500 from a dealer or private buyer this week.

how do i choose a good dealer tho? have called a couple in the local area bt i dont know their reputations, plus have contacted a few that i have seen advertised but again the same thing.

Here is the advert, and another post on the mare in soapbox. http://www.horsemart.co.uk/AdvertRef/HM821845D/ID//Web/DisplayHorseDetail.asp
I do feel for you but sadly, in this climate, and by the sounds of your circumstances, if you Have to have her gone and are paying 400pcm to keep her, a dealer is the only viable option. On the other post people gave you some good contacts to look up. Best of luck and I hope everything works out.

Thing to do would be to start a thread asking people: Any good dealers in Yorkshire? And asking what their experiences were of both buying from, and if necessary, selling to those people. Might be good to also ask for the bad ones to be PMed to you and that way you know who to avoid like the plague.

Also, re-read your old thread because a few people actually already made suggestions for dealers and yards on there, including one in North Yorkshire that is apparently very reputable.

yeah - have tried one that was suggested and got told that they dont really take mares!! and the other one is too far away apparantly and wont come up this far

Sorry Jo but i agree with everyone else- i had a pure bred, pink papered Westphalian gelding. 16.2hh 8years old- lovely confirmation and you could clean up at local level dressage but he was very quirky around jumps. From his looks and bloodlines he was worth £6k ish but i really needed him sold and accepted £1k so i think the offer you have had was generous...

i get i have to take the best price but how do i find a good dealer - one that will come and take her away within the next week or so.

am sat here now with tears streaming down my face as i dont know what to do!!!!!

a dealer that doesn't take mares?????

also could you not get a lift to them. You say you want h er gone and you do have some options but you don't seem able to make a decision?

the one that doesnt take mares normally is one of the ones that you mentioned to me. Cant seem to find the White rose one you mentioned - have you got any details?

the dealer that was too far away was down near wales and wouldnt come up - did offer to take Indy down there if they wanted her but he wont but without seeing (fair enough) and im not taking her all the way down there if its not a definate.

There are options available and i am TRYING to get through them - just dont want to send her to the wrong one thats all

eta - have found white rose - i know it as sledmere Lol
