posted a while ago about my bad back so cant ride, and my neice who is doing nurse training so rides fortnightly if that. Even YO yesterday said my mare was wasted. So, seriously thinking about selling. Any ideas as to her value? She is 100% on the roads in the heaviest of traffic, 6 years old,16.1hh front shod (as not too good with back feet!) Ace to catch, very loving, loves being groomed, hasnt jumped as still green and we were taking it slow, but has done a fair bit of schooling up to a month ago. Lives out.
Still not totally decided, but thought I would ask your thoughts....

She sounds like a nice mare and I am sure many people would like that she is 100% in heavy in traffic.

If you post a bit more information about her it may be easier for people to suggest a price.

Is she fine with a novice rider?
How is her conformation (photo)?
Any vices?
What is her breeding, and does she have a studbook passport?

, she is fine with a novice - i bought her for me and I hadnt ridden for 10 years, but got 2 slipped discs now ;-( she is clydesdale ID X only vice is she not good with back feet.

i dont know about her value but are you really sure about selling?
Coming from someone who has a bad back and knowing that when in pain you get depressed, are you sure its right thing - i dont think its fair for people around you to say your horse is wasted - is she happy in field, fed well, groomed, given tlc ? - then she is happy she doesnt stand in field thinking she is wasted.
If you really set on it perhaps loan her for a year? get yourself sorted - get yourself to doc/consultant. She looks like a lovely mare and difficult sort to find

hope you get yourself sorted and end up with the right solution for you. I was going to also suggest driving her til i saw her pic (rather large lol)

thanks kezimac, you are probably right - she is given the best of care (people on yard say I pamper her!) but she came from Ireland and was very untrusting at first and is now like an old sheep! But today, I would swap her for a hot water bottle nevermind any cash!! ;-)

Is there any way you could drive her? or get someone else to? she she sounds just the sort that would be good in a carriage!

It wouldn't hurt your back and really good fun (if you like that sort of thing!)

think very very long and hard before selling. i ruptured discs in my back and spent 5 months in absoute agony, collapsing 3 -4 times a day. screaming with the pain in my back and legs. but I still rode. I put on a back brace and quadrupled my p[ain killer and once on board I was Ok. I then had spinal surgery. my neurosurgeon operated on my discs and removed the gunk that had come out of my discs and attached to my sciatic nerves, he had to cut lots of nerves to get them all freed, and re stitch my discs. I spent the next 12 weeks prone. slowly building up to walking. then i was told I could swim ( i can't as had previous neck.shoulder injury) or cycle ( again not an option because of same neck shoulder injury) I asked if I could ride. he was very encouraging. As far as he (a private neuro surgeon) was concerned, riding is fantastic for the spine. He told me to get on and ride. Not too much and don't fall off. I did. 1 week later I was doing a 12 mile pleasure ride with jumps. he was amazed at how well I was and how fast my back had heeled. but as he said riding strenthens the core muscles so your stomach muscles support your back.

Spo think ahead - your mare might be the best physio you can have. so what if she is not doing anything now - she will be there for you to take your mind off your pain and sorrow now, and will provide free physio for years to come. I now ride daily, I event, I break my own youngsters, my back is better than it has been for about 18 years.

In my eyes as long as a horse is happy then it doesn't matter what opinions anyone else has! Personally i like the care side more than riding so it wouldn't bother me not riding at all.

I also have a bad back so its lucky that i prefer the care aspect more! x

I just wrote a really long response basically echoing the above (but computer went funny and hasnt posted it) - i had my disc removed and although had 4 months off riding she was looked after and happy, and waiting for me when i could ride again and it was the waiting to ride that got me thru it.

ok, ok, you are all making me feel guilty to even think about selling her. I wont, passport safely locked away, and goal set of 1st July to get back in the saddle myself!! I have physio tomorrow and will talk though my goal with her. Thanks you lot!!xxx

just do whats right for you - horse is happy munching in field - i think you would regret selling her though tbh.
