Going against the trend here but I think dogs have to be one syllable. We have Pip. I think my next dog will be the same. 'Pip' is unisex but also cuts through nicely. You can't have 'soft' sounds in a dogs name because over distance I don't think it carries so well. Especially now pip is loosing her hearing!!!

I almost called the latest pup Sprocket, which would have suited her. Brenda was also a front-runner, but she ended up as Doris.

My friend had a dog called Sprocket; he was the most intelligent and hard working dog I've ever known.

I met a couple of scruffy terriers recently called Sprout and Toast. They really suited them!

I always wanted a dog called toast, specifically a terrier type, brown/ tan scruffy dog - I finally got one last year, had the tag printed up and everything but when she came home, she just wasn't a toast or a toasty Shes called Daisy now and it suits her down to the ground!

A name that always comes to mind from a dog in a film was called Camere/ Kamir (Come here) always thought it was quite funny.

Thorn and Beetle are two other names that are unusual. Beetle was a large black poodle at the yard I was at as a child and stole my packed lunch once.
