So my dad and step mum have 7 horses, mostly Lusitanos and I've been over to see them today whilst the lady that helps them was there. Went up to see one of the mare's, who I have just always had the best relationship with (I don't get to see her as often as I'd like), she came over and we just had a lovely cuddle and fuss.
Said lady comes over to me and says "I've never seen her do that with anyone else."
Do you have a really close relationship with a horse that isn't yours?

Yep!
My employers horse, when I very rarely get the chance to steal a ride 😊
Known for his propensity to be incredible 95% of the time, and slightly lethal the other 5%
He's just so lovely most of the time I don't mind the idiocy and just call him a drama queen. I think he knows I like him so is pretty good at catching me after launch.

I have with quite a few I have looked after over the years one of my absolute favourites was a grey Arab mare I had on full livery at the yard, we just totally got each other and her owner said she loved watching me school her.

The riding school I helped at got a horse to be used by the staff as lead horse for the rides, I loved him but others didn’t, he was a bit ears back in the stable with everyone else but fine with me,he was a bit lively for a lead horse so I bought him 😀😀 and used him when I took the rides , he was great and I don’t think any horse I have had since took his place as number one , he was a special boy , he was also my first horse

There is one at the sanctuary who will have a little place in my heart forever. He is a baby-brained, mischief-making terror and if he didn't have an old injury making him permanently un-rideable I would have begged on my knees to take him home and have him ruin the next 20 years of my life. He is lucky everyone loves him because he is beautiful, I love him because he is a horrid little goblin creature.

I spotted something of the same sparkle in Sadie. They thought she was just a sweet little dope on a rope when they let me take her home but I knew 😈

Groom at work doesn't get one with the horse in my profile pic for some reason! She tried mucking her out and groom got kicked

She's absolutely perfect for me, never had any problems

Quite a few over the years being a groom.

2 whilst working in France. Owners had more money than sense. They had no bond with them. I miss both horses and wonder what happened to them.

That's the same with my girl, she can be quite feisty in the stable, but she's an absolute angel with me and she isn't one for cuddles, but I can always bag one - I'd quite happily take her home if they'd let me!!
Not sure what Mont would make of another girl, but I reckon Mai would love it. 😁

I've known and loved so many 'horrid little goblin creatures'

But the phrasing has had me in absolute stitches 🤣🤣🤣
Will absolutely use verbatim in future!

Yes. When I was a teenager I tried to break in a half miniature shetland for a trekking centre. He was the worse of the 2 and as my friend was a better rider she got the better behaved one as he was more likely to be ready for children quicker.
He really started softening to me after being pretty wild and uninterested in humans and certainly didn’t think being ridden was a good pass time. I did fall for him (even though he was a shetland and a gelding!!) I still think of him often and I would’ve loved to have bought him if circumstances were different.

I fell in love with one of the RDA horses on sight 17 January 2017. By amazing good luck he's now mine. :)

I have a lovely relationship with another RDA pony who most don't like handling. I think she's wonderful, though she cow-kicks like a proper princess and unfortunately needs to lose at least 100kg. And there are a couple on my yard I really like and get to handle fairly regularly, both in my horse's field.

I do try not to get too attached after my friend's outgrown pony was sold. I still miss the cheeky little gremlin. It's probably good I don't have my own land...

Yep, the one who shares my yard, he's a real pet, adores people and adores attention whist still being well mannered (just as well because he is huge). In fact he's a "horse of a lifetime" sort of horse because he is a lovely ride too.

Yep, with the Highland mare in my avatar who’s owned by the trekking centre where I ride. I fell in love with her the first time I rode her (around 9 years ago, I think), and even though she could be quite a handful when she was younger (to the point where there was only about three clients who actually wanted to ride her!), we just understand each other. I don’t get to ride her anywhere near as often as I like any more, as she’s now good with kids so is usually in lessons when I ride on Saturday mornings, but she still reverts to my cheeky pocket rocket when I do get to ride her. 🥰

Neither of the two I look after here belong to me. One has been with me for nearly 15 years, and the other only a couple of years. I don't fear them being removed (except by the Grim Reaper) as no-one else would want either of them!

Yes - two actually that I look after and ride for a friend. One I have been working with for just over five years and he’s learned to trust me with time, and the other just over a year but again we are building up a nice partnership.

Yes! I adore my friends new forest pony who went out on loan in august. Lucky for me it hasn’t worked out so she’s coming back:)
